Is it true that you are no longer contagious once the fever is gone?

We want to go to the YMCA to workout today but I don't want to put the kids in the child watch if they could get another child sick. My oldest is definitely feeling better and running around although she still has a runny nose and cough. Her fever is completely gone. Could she still get another child sick? I've never really known if that is a wive's tale or not.

Well, my daughter's fever is long gone but she managed to give me her sore throat.

Yeah, probably your child could get another child sick if she has a runny nose and a cough. But the likelihood is that the other kids there have been exposed to hundreds of kids with the same thing. :) Unless your child has a VERY runny nose or a hacking cough, I would go. I know how it is when you need the workout! :)

It depends on the illness, but my Pediatrician generally tells me to keep them at home for a full 24 hours of "no fever."

I work in the child care of a gym and we ask the children be fever free for 24 hours. We also don't want them in there if they have thick, colored runny nose.

We have had to get very strict about our policies. There was one week a few weeks ago when there was only one worker who could work because either they were sick or their kids were sick. We had to refuse several kids that week who appeared to be sick. The moms overall were very understanding about it, it is afterall a free service that is provided to them.

I appreciate the fact that you are concerned about the other kids:)
