I read somewhere that a lot of the CMs act like they are tired of their jobs. The service is becoming worse...
Is that true???? :sad1:

We encountered only one CM who didn't have the most magic. Guests were not listening to him. When I smiled and said just think you know all the secrets that no one else knows and you could burst everyone's bubble. He bursts out laughing :goodvibes and went on with the rest of his day.

The rest were magical even when I could have appreciated why the magic and some guest behaviour made this difficult.

A couple including Mustaff in Annette's Diner went beyond the call of duty. We made sure that both they and City Hall knew this :goodvibes

It is like in all places - people have good and bad experiences!! We on a whole have only had good ones and maybe only a couple of grumbles :)

Everyone has a different take on things ;) but on a whole I think Disney have great staff

ok so i have only been to dlp once so i have nothing to compare are last trip in june with, but i found cm's to be very friendly and helpful and they always had a smile on their faces. i can understand that some cm's may be seen to be rude at times, but at the end of a long day in a place like disney i dont think i would be at the top of my game and might make the odd comment that maybe i shouldnt have.:sad2:

i dont like to compare dlp to wdw but the cm's at wdw i must admit were abit more lively and up for it:banana:   but then i think that is more to do with the american way of life- they like to put 100% into everything they do.(i hope not to offend anyone by saying that) i'm sure the cm's at dlp put 100% into it too.

i was very pleased with the service we received as i had heard comments that some cm's are rude&i thought there may be difficulty with the lanuage, but once there, there wasnt a problem at all and nothing was too much trouble when we asked a cm something. I really think ppl should give them credit as it's not easy working in the leisure/ hospitality sector, as they prob face more complaints than good comments and they have to be the face of it and at the end of the day some ppl wont ever be happy with the service they receive no matter how hard someone tries to please them. Given the size of disney and the capacity of ppl that walk thro the gates at dlp everyday, i admire the cm's that work there, i dont think i could cope with facing that many ppl everyday and always having a smile on my face even if i didnt feel like it:guilty: ok rant over :rolleyes1 lol

i guess i just like to always like to look at things from the other persons perspective before making judgements, so i can see both sides of the coin

Sometimes I wonder if it's the "sparkle" of the majority of the CM's that makes the odd one or two who are missing it more noticeable.
Certainly we've never had cause to complain.:goodvibes

At the risk of receiving an infraction, I will point out that many if not most of the Cast Members at DLRP are from continental Europe.

As a German, I find it very difficult to adjust to the American overt friendliness, and actually often found it rude when Americans asked me overly personal questions, or what we would consider overly personal in Germany.

I have learned to adapt to the American style over the years when I do business in America, but revert back to German style in Germany and Europe.

I have been to WDW and DLRP many times now, and find the CMs in Paris just as good or better than in Florida.

Lufthansa staff receive the same type of reviews on www.flyertalk.com from non-Germans; we often need to point out that 'service' in Germany means providing efficient and complete service, but doesn't mean asking personal questions or even always smiling very much.

I have had many wonderful encounters with CMs in Paris; most were French, German, Dutch, or some other European nationality.

In 8 visits I don't recall ever meeting a bad CM - maybe I've been lucky but we've always had good experiences and found CMs to be helpful and fun. We've quite often had a laugh and joke with them.

What I have seen is a lot of guests approaching CMs in a very rude and impatient manner.

Maybe if the guest themselves more often said thank you and smiled at the CM I think that would help a lot.
I see so often people being rude to CM ore worse insulting them and mostly the CM just can’t help them.
There asking, no demanding, things ore wishes a CM just can’t fulfill.
Just tread them like people and not as some kind of dog you have to shout at. A dog barks back a CM looses his “sparkle”.
I know several CM personally and believe me they work very hard and love their jobs.

BTW we always receive an handwritten Christmas card from the staff of the CC.
Any one else receives one to?

Over my many trips to DLP, I must say it is remarkable how few bad experiences we've had. There have been the occasional ones of course - on our first trip my Mum and I naively went to to a very upscale restaurant for dinner (LA Bar and Grill I think it was) where the waiter was very snooty and when I asked for fish fingers and chips we ended up getting this over the top salmon and potato croquette dinner - which cost something like 27 francs, and the waiter could quite easily have said that they didnt have that kind of food.

Also, last May, we had a bad run in with a guy @ Cowboy Cookout, who just left our food sitting behind him until it got cold, and acted like it was a huge deal to give us new hot food.

However, we know these experiences are few and far between, and I think it's right what Jill said - that you get so used to having brilliant CMs that the few bad experiences (which are probably nothing compared to the service we get in everyday life) stay with us.

It must be a tough job, and i think the majority of CMs do a fantastic job.

I never had any bad experiences myself (only read about it from others) The only time it was close to a bad experience, was when this CM in a shop didn't want to speak english to anyone (have no idea how he got the job) but he was very busy telling all the english speaking guest how rude they were, cause they were in France so they should speak french...

I agree with these comments. I'm quite happy as long as a CM is pleasant and helpful. I don't always want them to be "fun" and super cheery - only if I'm in the mood for that!! :teeth:

I can't actually think of any DLP CM that made my visit less magical. If I have met any, then obviously it wasn't bad enough to make a big impression on me!! At WDW I've noticed CMs that range from very "Disney" to positively sullen. I find the temperament of CMs more even at DLP.

I can't think of any CM who has been rude, some are more reserved than other however are still polite.

I have only ever encountered miserable CMs on a few occasions and like everyone else in the world they may have just been having an "off" day.
Mostly the problems have been with servers in restaurants who have treated our justifiable requests as though we asking the impossible. Sometimes I get the impression that some of these servers don't really want to be working in the hospitality sector, and they are not really inspired by their jobs. You do not tend to see this attitude so much in WDW, where in general the restaurant servers I have encountered are more interested in making your experience an enjoyable one, and who actually seem to be enjoying their work.
In DLP, we have had cast members who have simply done their job efficiently and pleasantly, which is fine, and we have also met cast members who have gone well beyond the call of duty in an attempt to make our experience magical.

Its like life in general..if you smile people tend to smile back..Try making a CM feel special..ask them how they are..Its a great job I'm sure. My DH would have been fab at it (25 years ago).
