I was thinking of staying at the AKL Villas and was wondering if there was club concierge service. I have always stayed at deluxe resorts with their concierge service for 2 weeks every summer.

Yes, there are a very limited number of AKV with concierge/club service.

If that's what you want, make sure that you specifically request the concierge villas. As DVCMike said, not all AKV villas are concierge. It's a very small number, and they're likely to be snapped up quickly by DVC members who own at AKV and can book at 11 months out.

There is a total of five two bedroom lockoffs. Meaning, five studios and five one bedrooms or five two bedrooms. They go very quickly by members and would be next to impossible for a non-member to get.

I'm curious though if members have to wait until 11 months out couldn't a non member book anytime before that like a year out and scoop one up?

No, the villas are not available to non-members until after members have had a chance to book them first.

A non-member probably couldn't book a reservation until at least 7 months out. Maybe not until 60 days out. By then, all the concierge rooms would be gone.

Not sure about this - we booked VWL 9 months out. August of 06 for May of 07 w/no problem. Unfortunately we never made it as DD was sick 2 days before we were supposed to leave & we had to cancel. But we went in October (stayed at the Poly) & made up for our missed trip.

But anyways 9 months the concierge rooms would probably be gone.

I am sure the regular non DVC rooms still have a concierge service. As has been said a non AKV DVC owner will find it near impossible to book a concierge DVC villa, unless they know an owner who will book it for them.

Claire ;)

What probably happened in your case is that a VWL member decided to trade their points for a non-DVC stay, then their points revert to Disney and they then rent the room out to recoup their costs in providing the non-DVC stay. Any DVC room booked on cash prior to 60 days before arrival is obtained in this way. Starting at 60 days out, the rooms in the DVC inventory, can be rented out for cash through Disney. Disney does own a VERY small percentage for their own use, which is where some of the cash ressies come from. But with that small percentage and the lack of concierge units, Disney would probably never allow concierge villas to be booked on cash, and risk the wrath of owners! BCV is a perfect example of this, there are VERY few 2 bedroom dedicated units with two queen beds in the second bedroom, these units can only be reserved by DVC members and are almost always scooped up by BCV members before the 7 month window opens up.

no DVC resort had concierge service until AKV opened in AKL.

most DVC resorts are stand alone and don't have concierge. -

DVC members only get it at AKV - because it is in the same building as AKL.

once the other building is completely it won't have concierge either. Only the lodge AKL will continue to have DVC concierge.

I do agree about booking thru a member if you want this.

Also try to find someone who owns at AKV - don't think any other owners would be a great help.

I agree about AKV-they should save them for members. Not sure what happened w/us. I just went to the Disney website and I could have booked a villa (1 bedroom or 2 bedroom) for any of the DVC for next September. Thats weird - I wonder what would happen when we showed up in September...would they still honor the ressies? Maybe they're overbooking. I dunno - DVC units are too expensive for us anyways especially now that DD2 will be 4 when we go again we'll need a 2 bedroom. Its fun to dream though ;).
