Is It True About Those Heely Shoes In The Parks????

oh man i hate those things!!! it's really great when the kid get a concusion and broken arm when he's using those things and the babysitter has to be the one to call the parents and say "oh by the way i'm in the er with your child can you come sign some papers??" trust me, it's not a fun phone call to make!

but yes they are everywhere, and i don't really understand what the big deal is with them anyway, they are shoes with wheels! ohhh big invention!!

Plenty of kids on heelys, most of them behaving themselves, a few using them to dart in and out of groups of people (dangerous I'd think). I have nearly had kids knock me down a couple of times.

I would love to be at the opening gates if security ever started enforcing the "no wheelies" rule. Can you imagine the tirades that parents would throw? Imagine, no wheely sneakers allowed, who carries an "extra" pair of sneakers in their bag to replace the wheelies, and who really packs extra sneakers on a trip to begin with? What exactly would the parents do at that point when the wheelies are not allowed in the parks.

My nephew has a pair. You can remove the wheels. AT that point they are just regular sneakers.

We even saw the kids skating around in the lobby of the AKL this December!

I have hated these shoes since I first saw them..I too want to reach a leg out when some rude kid races past. You're right though..where are the parents that are allowing this behavior?? (don't get me started on the lack of manners in today's kids! ) I cringe when I see the kids walking around in them with the wheels still in...that can't be good for their feet!! And granted, you can take the wheels out, but the shoes still looks heavy and not very giving to the foot. I know I wouldn't be able to walk long in them. Let's hope this is a quick fad...perhaps like the Reebok Pump??

I got SLAMMED for saying I wanted to do this, but I do.

And during my Oct trip I saw some BRAT on these things SLAM into a Senior Citizen. When Disney gets sued for someone's broken hip I bet they start inspecting the shoes! (And if your KID is going full speed down a hill and SLAMS into me, prepare to hear about it!) What's worng with WALKING? (Don't tell me it's too hard on your darling child, if they can "heely" they can WALK!)

I'd estimate that approximately 15% of every kid I saw last week had them on. (There were also a huge number of kids wearing Disney Crocs--including my DS)

I can't understand how they can possibly be comfortable for walking in. All the kids I saw trying to walk looked all out of alignment and uncomfortable. My DH and I both agree that they are just an invention to make kids even lazier than they already are--coasting along to their destination.

We saw lots of them on our Nov trip but I have to say I didn't notice anyone in danger from them; no high speed, sudden stops, swerves, near-misses, etc.
That doesn't make it okay, just an observation.

I totally agree. It's the parents that I want to throttle though, not the kids. Ok, maybe it's the kids too. If a child happens to connect to the bottom of my leg, it wouldn't be tripping him or her. I was just walking along minding my own business when your child crashed into my foot. Sorry!

I was just telling my wife the same thing this weekend.

They're dangerous and irritating.

I don't trip the kids wearing them. I'll trip the parents for letting them wear them.

Amen! I won't actually trip anyone, but I reserve the right to laugh my butt off when one of the little Heely wearin' terrors faceplants.

PLEASE TELL ME ITS NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We saw lots of children wearing them and holding onto their parents while rolling during thanksgiving week.

We were there 12/10-12/15 and upon checking in at the WL saw several kids in heelys skating around the crowded lobby. We also saw it throughout the parks unhappily. Parents- What about these is beyond you? Skating in a crowd- not a smart idea and not allowed!

I have just started to see them everywhere here in PA. Up until now it was very rare. I was in Giant Food Store the other day and I saw 7 kids flying up and down the aisles with them on. (none seemed to be from the same family). Now I normally shop at Redners for groceries and there is a sign on the door that says they are not allowed. I have NEVER seen any kid in there using them. I am going to stay out of Giant!!

Just got back and saw them everywhere. The kids were skillful on them and they look like so much fun -- wish they'd make them for adults!

The problem is not with the kids - kids will be kids no matter what they have to play with. I used to get in my wagon and somehow manage to "steer" it down the big hill behind my parents house when I was young and stupid. My parents back yard has several large trees that dot the area and how I did not slam into one or two of them I don't know. When my mother saw me do it one day, she nearly died and when she caught her breath, she THEN made me go pick out my own switch which she used to leave nice little racing stripes that were the same color as my wagon (only three - which were plenty). I learned a valuable lesson that day and never rode my wagon down the hill again. It never dawned on me how dangerous that was - my mother had to correct me. Both of my sons asked for heelies for Christmas this year and neither got them. They have bikes, skateboards, skates and scooters and that is enough (course I make them wear knee pads and helmets when they ride them). Parents need to BE parents and say no when asked for stupid potentially dangerous things, and they need to correct them when they misuse the stupid potentially dangerous things they have already bought them!

I am a teacher and I also do not like heelies. Parents, please do not send your children to school in heelies with or without the wheels. These shoes are heavier than regular shoes and your child walks around like Frankenstein all day. Not to mention how many times they are playing with them or admiring them. Most kids push the wheel up while at school but they make a clunking sound and make it harder for your child to walk much less run at recess. I am a parent too and no heelies for mine either. Parents use your common sense and don't let your children wear these to school!!!!

My wife is a pediatrician. Unfortunately, Heelys finance a good portion of our WDW trips, if you know what I mean.
