I fax my loop request in the day before we leave, which would be 2 days before we arrive. This is just a reminder, since I make my loop request at the time of reservation. Site assignments are made the day of your arrival, so faxing too soon would not serve any purpose, and in fact increases the likelihood it will be lost.
We were told 4-5 days prior to arrival (max) is the way to go. Something about the way this information is collected and given to the person doing the site assignments.
Our m.o. is to make sure our request is noted on our ressie, and then fax in about 4 days before we arrive. Worked like a charm so far, but we also go during the slower weeks of early Dec.
Yes, I have heard that the Fort doesn't receive any information about your reservation until 5 days before your arrival, so waiting until 4 days before allows them to mate your fax to your reservation... as I understand it.
The letter I use for my campsite requests is as follows:
The fax# is:407-824-3508
Date
TO: Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground Site Assigner
FROM: Name
Address
SUBJECT: Site Request for Month xx - xx
RE: Reservation # xxxxxxxx
I am really looking forward to my stay at the Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground and am writing about campsite requests. I do understand that these are only requests and cannot be guaranteed.
If possible, I would like a site in Loop xxxx or Loop xxxx with a site that will accomodate the following: (list your "stuff" here) and near (whatever you want to be near).
Thanks so much for your help, and once again Im really looking forward to my visit to Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground.
If you have any questions, I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx or by email at xxx@xxx.xxx
