Is it too late to rent DVC?

So it looks like the fall discounts are going to be a total bust for my family. I am now thinking that we may be able to rent dvc for a price comparable to staying at POR. There are 8 of us, currently my parents are paying for their own room and we are paying for a room for the 6 of us. Couldn't we get a 2 bedroom at one of the less expensive resorts for about the same price? Is it too late to get a room? Thank you!

Your post will probably be edited as you aren't supposed to list specific dates or ask about availability for specific dates. That said, I did take a look since I was already checking some dates for our family. There were no 2brs available for the length of your trip. HTH.

Yes, 2-3 months out will almost always be too late to rent points for a fall or winter trip.

DVC resorts are timeshares, so they tend to book up earlier than hotel rooms. if DVC owners can't use their pts, they risk losing them.

also, fall is the MOST popular season for DVC bookings.

unless you are insanely lucky and someone has to cancel a 2BR at the last minute, there's pretty much no chance of renting this late...

You are probably right about the staying at a DVC villa via renting may be comparable to staying at POR.

However, getting a 2 Bedroom at such short notice via points is probably not likely.

8 in a 2 Bedroom seems a bit crowded too. We are a family of 4 and we do only 2 Bedrooms. It is nice but if I imagined another 4 bodies in our 2 Bedrooms, that sounds crowded.

For future reference all 2 bedrooms sleep 8. BLT, AKV Kidani and OKW sleep 9 because they have sleeper chairs in the living rooms. In all 2 bedooms someone will be sleeping on a sofa bed if there are 8 of you. I would recommend OKW because it has the most space and 3 actual beds (1 king, 2 queens) 1 queen sleeper sofa and 1 sleeper chair. Plus it requires the fewest points.

BLT and AKV Kidani have 3 full bathrooms. BWV has no 2nd bedrooms with 2 beds and BCV has only 25 with 2 queen beds in the 2nd br.

You can keep trying, people cancel all the time. Maybe you can plan earlier for next year. Good luck!

:thumbsup2, same here. We once brought my sister along and stayed in a 2br, not good. Nowhere for her to sulk in private . Next time we got a Grand Villa and everyone was happy!

You could have had her pay cash for a room in a value resort so she could sulk all she wanted to and no one would be the wiser.

Or not invite her because who wants to bring someone who sulked last time.;)

(we are so mean).

That would have been my other suggestion. ;)

Well, she only came on those 2 trips, left early and hasn't been asked since, last sister trip was 2008.

Even if it wasn't her, I don't like having someone sleep in the living room.

Me, either. It makes for a much nicer trip if the living room & kitchen can be open for those who like to get up early or stay up late. That's one of the nicest things about DVC for me. I miss it when we go other places. :)

And its a good excuse to have a Grand Villa. We ended up with one last time for just four of us - each kid had their own room.

(We were going to bring my brother in law - we booked eleven months out in August of 2011 the trip for August 2012. He died of bladder cancer in June of 2012. So it wasn't planned to be ludicrous, it just ended up that way. And, I really couldn't be too upset with him for backing out of the trip, either and really wish we COULD invite him again)

Availability is always changing on the dvc member website so I would start inquring with members who have points. Also if you are willing to do a split stay your odds of finding a room goes up.

I'm totally new to the DVC point rental idea but my wife and I are going in the fall for our 20th anniversary and we are looking into this possibility.

Where can I get some basic information to see if this might work for us?

I can always come up with an excuse to stay in a Grand Villa, especially the ones at Vero Beach. Only problem is my point balance doesn't want to cooperate sometimes.:rotfl:

If you mean this fall, you are probably too late to purchase a reservation from a member ("rent points") for this fall. From mid-Sept to mid-January is very popular with members so they book their stays 7 to 11 months out. Oct, Nov and Dec would be nearly impossible for this late.

But for next year, you could check the top of the Rent/Trade Board for several sticky threads about the process. Or you could check out one of the Board Sponsers who does this for you.
