Is it too hot to go in the summer?

We generally avoid going during the summer, but that's because we can pick and choose since we're just an hour away. We do go, sometimes if there is a rare cooler day, but really pace ourselves. It's important to understand that the sun in Florida is what makes it hotter, so if you should minimize the time in the sun.

All I can say is: DO NOT GO IN AUGUST. It is TOO hot. (unless you like the heat.)

I went in June 2006. It wasn't TOO hot,it was better and less crowded.

August is TOO crowded, and full of travelers from different countries.
When my family and I were in line for Fantasmic, all these weirdos tried to start a wave or force the cast members to let them in. It was so funny XDXD.

I'm trying to convince my dad to go to WDW in April, but it's hard ^_^

We go every year in the summer. We enjoy it. We like to have our big meal at about 2:30 when it is hot, and enjoy the air conditioning later in the evening when it is cool we generally just snack. We like being at the parks until they close, and the weather is great for that. We do tend to go back to the resort and swim or relax during the hot part of the day. I agree with other posters, it is a good idea to get out early too. There are plenty of places to avoid the sun and heat. That being said, I do change my shirt 3-4 times a day in July at WDW. :goodvibes

Congratulations on your anniversary!

We went in July for a birthday, which was a change from when we usually go in the spring. It's definitely hot, but there are ways to manage it. We went in with Mister fans and lunchtime reservations so we could get out of the heat at the hottest part of the day. Just pace yourself since it's easier to get tired in the heat. You can go in the summer and still have fun! :)

:) I would keep your plans. I would look at it as a warm romantic retreat with your favorite guy. Yes it is very warm in June. I would sleep in a bit if you are not into the Park attractions, maybe put on a suit and swim a bit. Then head to the park in the evening. I would also spend a day at the Florida Mall which is not too far away at all. Then hit the parks that evening. I would do a tour of the monorail resorts, in the a.c. have a romantic lunch then maybe see a Nemo the Musical at AK. I mean do some research and see what you really want to do. If it is Beauty and the Beast SHow at DHS then plan ahead and go in for that, leave or get a tropical umbrella drink or smoothie and watch the crowd in a shady area. THere are some benches near the hat there. Look at the maps and get an idea of dome things to do that you will enjoy inside....Hall of Presidents, then Haunted Mansion across the street, lunch at Columbia Harbor House.

In the evening if you want to do the parade or fireworks. Get a reservation at Plaza Restaurant so once you eat you will be right there and will not have to walk far. I think the trick for Summer would be to have a keep it simple and close plan. Of course you can always take a romantic stoll on the Poly Beach and watch the fireworks from there--then make some of your own---bom chicka bow wow.:love:

I don't think you should go, more room for us then.

:thumbsup2

If you dress appropriately, keep well hydrated and wear high SPF sunscreen, it's manageable.

SPF 50 in a spray bottle is great.

I see lots of people with those spray bottles with the fan. I think an umbrella works better.

Avoid cotton, use man made or wicking material, sports stores have them. They dry real fast so you don't look and feel like an old dish rag.

Yes, it is. It's surface of the sun hot. I have done FLA in summer (lots) and can't imagine being in a paved theme park with thousands of others. The smells, the tempers, the heat, the smells...

I was there once in the last week of July, first of Aug. We knew what we were in for, so we took pro-active measures and it all worked out. That trip we were staying at POP and made sure we were were at rope drop each day and back for a long lunch/nap/swim from 12-4, then went back after the rain stopped (thunderstorm each afternoon due to humidity). We also had camelback water backpacks that we filled with ice at each meal stop, personal mister fans, and those gel filled neck coolers. The crowds were intense, but we knew that going in and resolved ourselves to be patient and spent the extra time in line trying to see special details around us that we usually miss. EMH times, park hopping, and fastpass strategies also helped.

We were NOT all grouchy, tired, miserable, or saying "we will never do this again" though. In fact, it was one of our more magical trips. I think it is a change in mindset and planning, but not a deal breaker for us.

Summer is easier if you go back to your resort in the early to mid afternoon. That's when the park is the crowded anyway. Get to the park at rope drop, leave after lunch for a dip in the pool or nap or some other activity that keeps you out of the sun, and then come back after dinner.

I have been to WDW in the summer many times. When I was younger I was good. I will be turning 50 this summer and the last time I went in the summer 09 it was terrible. I spent most of my time while we were at Magic Kingdom in the gift shop by Splash Mountain standing next to the air conditioning vents while the rest of the family rode the rides. I live in Texas just a little north of Houston and we have the heat here too. The difference is we go from one air conditioned place to another in the summer we don't spend unnecessary time outside. We go in December now and it is sooo much better. I really don't think I will go between June and October again. Good luck with your decision. Hope your trip is Magical!

congratulations on 25 years! that's wonderful!!!!

we went last june. it was hot. but we took midday breaks. also, we bought mist fans and those things were wonderful!

yes. it is hot. but it's bearable.

YES, from a 40 yr. Floridian. You wouldn't catch me dead in a park if I could help it.

Is it too hot? Yes.

Should you go anyway? Probably.

I lived in CFL for many years. Summers are evil hot. Summer extends From march to October. We vowed to never go back to visit family or to Disney in the summer months, but we've done both. It IS doable, but you need to plan to stay out of the heat of the day. Do outdoor stuff early and late and hide in the shows and resort during the hottest part of the day. We had a blast at SWW last summer, but my DS even said we can only visit in the winter from now on ;)

We must be of an age, we celebrated our Honeymoon in July at WDW in 1975. Have been back many times in July to celebrated Anniversaries; 25th, 33rd and 35th just last summer. It is hot, but we tour the parks in the early morning, and later evening, and plan most of our sit down meals or water parks in the afternoon heat. Since we are usually on our own at anniversary time, we can go at our own pace, enjoy the indoor movies, and always have a great time. I wouldn't run a marathon in July, but for us, it is the most romantic time to go!:goodvibes

beer makes it a little more bearable (except in MK)... but in general, yeah. WAY too hot and crowded...

I need your help. My hubby and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary this coming March. We are renewing our vows and had been planning a trip to Disneyworld in July. I don't really like the idea of going that time of summer but we're using my parents vacation travel club and that's when it's first available. I work at a school so summer is our best time to travel.
My question is for those that have been there in the summer time. I'm really nervous about the heat and humidity. Is it worth going in July? Or will we be miserable. What are the crowds like in July?

We have been to Disney 4 times the week after Thanksgiving and have loved it but this time it won't work. My dd worked at Epcot when she was a part of the Disney Career Start Program back in 08. I love Disney and have always thought it would be a special way to celebrate our 25th anniversary but I'm having second thoughts. Can somebody help me?

Too Hot:eek:

We have gone every summer for past 25 years! School teacher so only time.
Also from nort east so hot is GOOOOOD......My only tip would be give yourself enough days to take time to go back to room/pool. 3/4 days doesnt cut it because you feel you need to be at parks all the time so as not to miss anything. We usually go 7-10 days and take our time.

I look at it this way. It's not going to be any hotter or more humid than summer in New York City, and New York City doesn't have water attractions, unless someone breaks a fire hydrant.

This will be our 2nd trip in June. I can handle the humity and heat but I have a hard time with the rain. It can rain for hours. Our last trip during June 2009 it rained quite a bit that it interrupted a few plans like swimming at Stormalong Bay in the afternoon as lightening threatened the area and they shut down. Also, once we were at the water park it started raining around 1 pm or so and they shut down the slides. They did open about 45 minutes later and we did stay so, it was nice to go down the slides with no wait but then, it started raining again about 45 minutes later.

We tour the parks at rope drop and then, leave in the afternoon and return in the evening. Or we'll sleep in and do the parades in the afternoon and dinnner in the park and hang out at the park in evening. With the parks opened later you can definitely plan around it.

We are kinda stuck on when we can travel for another 8 years so, we just make the best of it. I'm from California and it gets very hot where we live in the summers up to 105 degrees during the day. But it is a dry heat so, I love the humity. It feels so much nicer on my skin but that's me.

Good luck.
