Is it too early for Dh to be mowing the lawn?

He started about 8:30. He works 11p-7a and then did some home visits(he's an RN). When he got home he decided he would rather mow the lawn now instead of when he got up later in the day. Is it too early? I don't want the neighbors to get upset. Actually, a few of our neighbors have landscapers come to do their yards and they usually start much earlier than that so I guess I shouldn't worry. Just thought I'd ask for some opinions.

I don't think it is too early at all, especially on a weekday.

Ditto to the pp, especially on a weekday, 8:30 is not too early. My dh mowed our lawn earlier than that on Friday morning. :)

It's not too early. Tell your DH a fellow night shift RN said so....however, I think he'll agree that 12 NOON is too early for neighbor to mow his. :p That wakes me right out of my daytime sleep, which isn't very sound to begin with!

Phew! Thanks! Dh is on such a different clock than most people so it can be hard sometimes!! I'm just glad the lawn is getting mowed!;)

to early, I think 10 am is the earliest that you should do it

8:30 is fine. I say anytime after 8. I know I hear some at 7 around here.

I agree -- not too early on a weekday. That is, unless you know you have neighbors who work different shifts -- in which case, you could be nice and wait a little longer.

I think towns have actual laws about this kind of stuff, just call down to the municipal building and ask them and then you won't have to worry about.

If I were your neighboor I'd be mad. My mom wouldn't let us out to play or make noise until 10am, no matter what. She said it was the polite thing to do. I have a neighboor who does what he wants at 6:30am-7:30am. Totally iritates me. However, the wife works nights. I have to say, last year I finally snapped. I've been known to be really loud during the afternoon to relieve "stress"!!

I prefer to wait until 9 on a weekday, but my neighbor assures me that most everyone on our block is up and out the door before 830- especially those with kids. We have been getting a road built near our house for two years now and they are at it at 7 AM as the laws around here allow! I had a boy at our last house who would play baksetball right outside our window at 645 every morning and the police would do nothing about it. Mowing at 830 would have been a blessing compared to that.

We're not allowed to mow on weekends until 9a.m. per the deed restrictions but no one follows that. I'm up at the crack of dawn so it doesn't matter....

Have you talked to your neighbor and expressed your frustrations about the noise that early in the morning?

Seems a better solution than doing loud things in the afternoon as retaliation.

I personally wouldn't mow the lawn until after 9AM, and that's because I wouldn't want to wake anyone that might be trying to sleep a little later.

When we lived in a townhouse many, many years ago, some of the retirees would be out at 7AM on a Saturday and Sunday morning! UGH! I used to hate that as we were still sleeping. Living in a townhouse, it sounded like the mower was right under our bedroom window!

No. Unless the grass is still wet from dew..
I was gonna mow mine but it is still to wet..

Guess you'd have to know my neighboors. They are really off the wall. DH tried talking to them about their dog. They got a puppy last year and tie it up 24 hrs a day to their garage--- which is about 10 feet from our dining room windows. Anyhow, the dog would bark endlessly for hours. He made a remark and they said the dog is as a quiet as a mouse unless provoked. They said we must be provoking the dog from inside our home! It got so bad we finally called the dog catcher, they then proceeded to put the dog closer to our property line!! They are mental. When we're not home they park their cars on our lawn, ride their snowmobiles through our yard, ect., ect. So by speaking to them they'll only start at 5:30 am.
My favorite is when they talk about us like we can't hear them. But we're all outside and only a few feet away!

They actually did just pass a noise ordinanc here in Worcester but he is fine at 8:30 am mowing the lawn - my neighbors have a totally different view of the world and do that sort of stuff a lot earlier than that. What I really hate is leaf blowers - they need to be outlawed in my humble opinion. Just kidding, I know people love them but the noise they make can set my teeth on edge. My neighbors who I never see lift a finger around their house, sends their son out to rake the leaves. Well, what do you think he uses, not a rake, but a leaf blower in the most ridiculous of ways for hours on end - I always feel like screaming out the windows, it would have taken you half as long if you would just pick up a rake!

Oh, can I just highjack this thread for one more gripe - I actually find the sound of lawn mowers kind of nice in the morning, it is a clear sign that spring is in full swing, but what really gets me - again like leaf blowers - is this big dog that a neighbor lets out who howls and barks for hours on end starting at 5 am. Why don't they let the darn thing back in?

Oh, and I already told you about the ducks who serve as a natural alarm clock!

Bottom line is - nope - MOW AWAY! :hyper:
