Is it too cold to take a Cruise to the Carribean in Feb/March?

We were considering booking our next cruise in Feb or March to the Carrribean but we want it to be hot enough to swim on the ship and at Castaway Cay. What's the weather usually like then?

We have done 3 cruises the 1st or 2nd week in February - one western and two eastern. We have been able to swim on the ship and at all the ports without any issues. We did have one rainy/windy day on the first eastern one but otherwise we lucked out with the weather. It was warm but not too hot. Of course, you cannot always predict the weather but I think you have a pretty good chance!

We just got off the Fantasy a little more than a week ago. The weather was beautiful, mid 70s to low 80s. We went swimming in the ocean at Castaway Cay.

We were on an Eastern Caribbean cruise at the end of January and there were plenty of people swimming on board and at Castaway. It was down right hot in San Juan.

We weNt February 13-16 and the weather was nice. High 70's, but very windy and the water at Castaway Cay was really cold. Aquaduck was cold, too. We still enjoyed every minute of sunshine and got a little tan just from the beach and poolside. I would go again in February because the rates are so nice.

We just returned from Eastern cruise on the Fantasy March 14-21. We thought the weather was perfect. Even though the water felt chilly when we jumped in, we quickly got used to it and thought it felt great!

We were on the same cruise! The weather was awesome!

We have done a three night member cruise in January. The weather was nice..you could get away with shorts and t-shirts and light jacket at night. However, the water at Castaway was a little chilly for me...though we did pull two chairs up at Serenity Bay and get our feet in..and there were plenty of northerners who were splashing about and having a good time....but not this southern boy..

We went on the Fantasy Feb. 14th. CC was freezing. We had sweatshirts on when we got off the ship. It was windy and the water was too cold to swim. Beach was very empty. Got a little warmer in the afternoon but not enough to swim. We had nicer weather in San Juan and St. Maarten. We even had a little rain a couple of times while we were on the ship. I canceled our cruise for next Feb. because it's just too cold.

It almost certainly won't be hot, may be warm, may be cool, or may be downright cold. That time of year is really dependent on cool/cold fronts that pass through periodically. If you're behind one of these fronts, then it will be cool and if you're not then it will probably be warm and plenty nice enough to swim. I'd think that March is more likely to be warm than Feb, but our ship missed Castaway Cay on a March cruise and had cool weather where we wore jeans and jackets and we made it fine on a late Dec one with warm weather so you never now.

We've done Mar cruises the past few years. Last week, everything was great - could swim anywhere we went. Last year, I remember it being a little colder, though it was about the same week. We did still swim and do the Aquaduck on that trip many times as well.

This time of year, there are infrequent pop up storms that come from the Gulf of Mexico. It's not like the FL storms that you get at 3pm every day during the summer months... :)

So it seems like a bit of a gamble because it could go either way. But that being said, this past October there was a huge storm at CC and we didnt even get off:sad1:

The Caribbean will be upper 70's to upper 80's, it will be warm and swimming will be fine. CC can vary. Northerners will think it is OK to swim earlier than the southerners.

Embarkation day in Florida was cool - 55 maybe, St.Thomas and Puerto Rico were pretty hot, CC was warm, not hot but we found the ocean water cold. The afternoon we were on CC we decided to go in the aqua duck as there was no wait and we were freezing getting off ;) I think Jan to march can be hit and miss, but the coldest ports would be Florida and Bahamas, maybe Mexico especially Jan-Feb. i would choose Eastern, St. Thomas, St.Maarten, Puerto Rico all have pretty hot weather even during that time of the year.

Feb 2012 my cousin and her family took a 3 nighter and their CC day was really cold. The kids wouldn't swim. Of course, the whole coast of FL was cold, too; we met them at their house in Daytona the day they disembarked and it was very very cold. (they are nearly-lifelong Floridians, but we certainly aren't, and it was cold in FL)

The following year we all went on the "same" sailing, and it was gorgeous. The water was chilly when you got int, but you got used to it. The kids, even the Floridians, spent most of the day in the water.

Last year in January we did an eastern Caribbean, and San Juan and Sint Maarten were hot hot hot.

This year in January we did Bahamas again and Castaway was rather warm.

Whereas in our October trips, the air at Castaway was warmer, so the water actually *felt* colder than it did during our wintertime trips. Far less pleasant for us than in winter.

We have sailed the first/second week of March for several years. CC was way too cold to get into the water last year. Previous years it was pretty cold too and I really had to force myself to get in and after I got out, I wouldn't get back in. CC is great on land in March, but the water really is too cold for me. The Eastern Carribean (St Thomas, St Marteen) is wonderful in March. Perfect weather for swimming in the ocean and on land.

The Caribbean will be warm, and the water will be warm. Castaway on the other hand could go either way. We have cruised in Dec, Jan and Feb. The weather was warm at CC, but the water was way too cold. I did see a few people swimming so I guess it just depends on what you consider cold. My favorite time to visit CC is in Sept/ Oct when the water is like a hot tub.

I think your definition of warm water will depend on where you are from. The weather I'm sure will be nice but the water temps could be to cold for you depending on where you are from.
