We are thinking of going to Disney World in Sept. or Oct. 2009 with our two daughters. It will be their first time. So, is it to early to start planning now?

IMO it is never to early. Start getting some ideas about all the differant resorts and where you may like to stay. If this is your first time visiting order the planning CD Disney offers free of charge. Cruise the DIS to get ideas to make your trip special (it is amazing some of the things people think of and I have adopted for this coming trip - I can't wait!).

Buy books that explain each ride (Unofficial guide to WDW is great) so you know what to expect when going to each park. They even have a great kid book with pictures (although I forget the title) that my nephews (5yo) love "reading". They are so familiar with the rides even though they have never been. They can not wait to try Space Mountain and Test Track.

We starting over a year out and can't believe how quickly the time came to us almost being there.

Planning is half the fun!

Our first time was in Aug 07 and I started planning in Sept of 06. We are already planning for Aug of 09. :cool1: At this point I won't call it planning but dreaming and researching. For our first trip, the time was needed to adequately research and plan, to get an idea of what we would like and not like. We stunk at keeping our Advance Dining Reservations as we got late starts on our days and went to different parks. Things I wouldn't do again...Cinderella breakfast on our first day there even though DD was 11. It was a fine breakfast but the call of the World was too strong to truly relax and enjoy. I would save for later in the week. If DD are swimmers...plan for the water parks and use EMH. We enjoyed it immensely. Cirque de Soleil was truly worth the money as was the Pirates and Princess party. Sorry this is so long, but no it's not too early, read the guide books, get the maps from Disney, and study the webs sites, etc. Most of all, have fun in 09:thumbsup2

It's never too early to start planning. If your daughters are into the princess scene, then you must do Cinderella's Royal Table for lunch. The picture of my daughter getting a hug from Cinderella brings a tear to my eyes ech time I see it. There are a lot of good books out there (passporter, birnbaum, and others). I think planning is half the fun!!

We have been planning our early Dec 2008 trip for the last few months. We have had a difficult time getting the rooms we want for the days we want. It may be that all of the rooms are not yet released but who knows. I would say the sooner the better if you have a specific idea what you want for a room.

We're going in September of '09, and I'm already obsessing over this trip. We will be a family of 6, and I have my heart set on a deluxe room at the WL, but reading through the posts here on the DIS, they are extremely hard to come by.
Start planning! The more you know before you go, the better your trip shall be. Have fun!:cool1:

I researched our trip for a good 2 years, and I really only scratched the surface. It gives you space to research and decide exactly what you want to do.

I will be joining you in September 2009! I started the planning the day we flew back in September 2006. I love the planning stage.

I say it's NEVER too soon to plan! Heck, we probably won't be going until Spring of 2010, BUT with all the planning I will sure be able to save a lot of $$ and will be hoping to swing WL for that trip!! (We are expecting this spring and we took DS when he turned 2, so it's only fair to take the next one when they turn 2!) I always jot down little bits of info that may be of use when the time comes! Planning is so much fun!!!

It is NEVER TOO EARLY to book your WDW trip, especially if you already know when your going and which hotel you want to stay at. I came home on Aug. 23 and yesterday just booked my Aug., 2008 trip!!:rotfl2:

DH and DS are there now at the BC since DH is at a convention on business and having a great time while I'm here with other DS and work.:headache: I work at a school and didn't want to take the time off so soon:scared:

I agree, it's never to early to start planning. It's more fun than sitting than waiting for time to pass and WDW is such a large place the more you plan, the more effective and fun your trip will be. Purchase some guide books, check out the great sites about Disney World. There are so many decisions to be made when going. I love planning.

It's not too early -- but pace yourself. It's way too easy to end up over thinking everything given all that time. More than one person has changed their touring plans, dining plans, and resort plans umpteen times before they even made a call to Disney. :)

So, if it were me, I'd stick to research right now. I'd do things like keeping lots of notes on the things I find out and what I think about them. Then I'd start making decisions next summer.
