retire Pirate Night?

What with the ban on toy weapons (which seems logical...sorta) and the fact that the "classic" ships are moving away from the "classic" sailing theme (sorta) and that it has been around for a gawd awful long time, maybe a hiatus is due.

I KNOW....POC is coming around again in 2017 (so far) and the tie-in is mouth-wateringly obvious, but maybe its time to....move on.

I detect a sense of boredom here with the returning and returning and returning same ol' shows....of course, there is a large base of fan-families which is not to be ignored.

But, sometimes, change is good, No?

Pirate night was one of the highlights of our trip for my kids. They loved everything about it and will still love it without being able to bring a toy gun.

Don't go to pirate night then? Same with the shows... Don't go to them. You want change? Go to a movie instead. Find another activity to do. It's not like Disney is forcing you to participate in JUST those activities at that time. It's one of the things I love about DCL. There's so much more going on during those times that a lot of people miss.

I enjoy the fireworks but I prefer the original Pirate Night from the Classic Ships. What would you suggest it be changed to? No Frozen please. I enjoy that but its been overdone .

We went on our first DCL recently and were pleasantly surprised at how big of a deal Pirate night was! And how everyone got into it. It was great!

Wouldn't bother me. I'm not fond of the pirate night menu, and not really into POC. They could always do fireworks still.

I don't get all that excited by Pirate Night though it is a fun theme night. The menu is probably my least favorite but I still find something I enjoy eating.

I'm OK with keeping it, even if plastic swords are no longer allowed. The kids like it and I enjoy seeing the kids have fun. I like having a theme night, whether it's pirates, formal, or whatever.

I think Pirate Night will always be a thing...I mean you are on a ship! However, as adults only travelers getting ready to sail our 6th DCL cruise in 5 days, we never do pirate night (we always do Palo that night), we hate Animators Palate and we rarely see any of the shows. So indeed there are other things to do and other reasons to sail DCL. I recently sailed Oasis on Royal and the things we missed that we are really looking forward to next week are movie theatre, in room movies, Cove Cafe (the quiet respite of this place...aaahhhhh), the spa (Oasis had services but no spa area to enjoy with lockers/showers/robes/slippers), Palo brunch or any brunch for that matter! and the classic look and clean lines of DCL not to mention the service (which we had GREAT on the Oasis but looking forward to it nonetheless.)

I like pirate night, I think it's fun. But I agree completely about the other shows. My whole family enjoys going to them, but I have to admit that I was disappointed that in the two years since we've last sailed, not a single one of them on the Fantasy is new. I understand that incorporating a new show is probably a ton of work, what with sets and all, but I would think they could rotate out maybe one a year, just to give returning cruisers something new to look forward to.

If they didn't have the fireworks I would probably be somewhere else on the ship. It is fun seeing some of the passengers all dressed up in their pirate attire.

My boyfriend and I are going on our first cruise in January and we are excited about pirate night. I'm sure I'll like it in the future too, because I'm a big fan of routine and knowing what to expect. This cruise is freaking me out because I don't know what to expect.

The fact that they are coming out with another film shows there is still a board based and large following of the series. As long as it continues there will be Pirates nights and the family fun they provide.

Considering how heavily attended it is, I don't see DCL discontinuing it any time soon. The deck was packed on our previous cruises, way more people dressed up for this than formal night and they were selling the swords, specialty drinks and other pirate specific items and services like crazy. The only way they would discontinue or change this is if interest dropped. We've been on two cruises, one on Magic and one on Fantasy and the pirate shows were different. They definitely should switch it up so repeat cruisers aren't seeing the same thing every single time.

since some people assumed this was a PERSONAL issue...let me assure you that it is not. I have most assuredly not sailed too many times (six years since my last dcl cruise) and I am fully aware of other entertainment venues.

that being said, i have read...for a loooong time.....people are bored with the repetitiveness of the entertainment. Of course, thee boards are full of repeat customers. And newbies wouldn't miss what they never had, i figger.

and the toy issue just brought the idea to my mind, not that its a tipping point...

anyhow, i still love carousel of progress for cryin' out loud. Not against nostalgia-- just thinking out loud here............

I love the Carousel of Progress since the New York Worlds Fair in 1964/65. Your question was a good one.....

My DGS is into pirates, and this was one of the reasons I booked a Disney cruise, and the Pirate League makeover. I was surprised they were all given plastic swords at the Pirate League. Not surprised when there was a lot of "sword fights" (closely supervised by parents) while waiting in line for pirate Mickey! I think it has almost become a trademark of DCL, but adding a Star Wars night would be fun, too!

New cruisers love it so I think they should keep it. I loved it on our first cruise. We started skipping it after the 5th cruise. We don't go to the shows, character meets, or any of the activities on the ship. We cruise to see new places or just relax and get away from our normal lives. My kids are all about the tween club and new ports so they could care less.

Pirates of the Caribbean dead men tell no tales. Release date July 17 2017.
So I don't see DCL doing without pirate night for a long time.
