Is it time to replace Autopia?

With Car's Land coming in 2012, I think it is! Do we really need 2 car rides that take up so much space?

Just to let you know, I don't hate or even dislike that many things at Disneyland, but I've always held a grudge for this ride. Even as a kid, the cars seemed to move to slow, the line was always super long and there wasn't much excitement to it.

Also, I usually get bent out of shape when someone else tries to rally for the retirement of a ride. I can't stand when Disney has taken out classics like "The People Mover" (it would be super cool if they brought back Tron), The Skyway, Motor Boat Cruise, ect..

My favorite part of the Monorail ride is dipping down through the submarines and curling around Autopia, so I wouldn't want that to change but I just think with today's technology Disney could put that space to better use.

I apologize in advance if this is your "favorite" ride, it was just a thought.

No... They should change out the cars to electric, but there is nothing like being able to really drive a car when you are little. Cars will just be a slot track.

While I am not a huge Autopia fan, I have noticed that it seems to absolutely fascinate kids of a certain age. I think "driving" is especially cool (even in limited Autopia terms) because kids are powerless over most of their world and the magic of the ride lies in that moment of adult-like control. I would hate to see that lost for others, even if I feel no need to go on it again myself.

ITA on changing the cars to electric! Autopia is not my favorite ride and I only catch it once every few years, but it's a big thing for children. And I think the landscaping and design is really pretty too!

Now, they can do something about Innoventions...:rolleyes1

I am not a fan because of the smell of the fumes while waiting in line.

I would not go on it except my 12 DD LOVES it!

No!! The lure of Autopia for both my children is IMMENSE! I wish it ran more smoothly, but I definitely don't want them to remove it.

My kids all loved this ride. They wanted to do it mutiple times, so I vote no on retirement.

The only reason I think it should stay is because theres certain kids that are all about that ride. I personally think it lacks any theme and doesn't really fit in Disneyland. It may have fit in tomorrowland at one point but I think it may be time for this ride to evolve somehow.

Oh and they should definitely do the electric conversions...

There you go, update it so something futuristic. Like I mentioned in my first post, I like the layout of the land just not the ride. Electric cars would be an improvement but it still would be pretty stagnant. Sure kids love the ride, there is no doubt about it since the lines are always so long. My point being, once Cars Land is open; the kids won't care for this ride as much.

It seems pretty clear that kids, mine and all the posters before, recognize this as a great attraction.

If they want to make a Cars attraction the should redo the Autopia's that all the other Disney parks have. Ours in DL is so much better than the versions that MK, Toko, Paris and Hong Kong. Just try one of the others and you will be thanking DL for doing such a great job with thier Autopia.

There really is nothing like it. I still remember the feeling of driving the cars at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and it was SUCH a thrill! There's a part on Autopia where you're going on or under a bridge/overpass, and it sends me back to those days...

The Cars ride in DCA isn't going to be that sort of ride, so apart from them having cars, they aren't the same.

I don't think the radiator springs racers are going to fill that "I got to drive!" thing that makes the kids love it! My son was absolutely over the moon about it. DL is unlikely to remove a ride this long lived that still needs a fast pass machine! It remains to be seen what effect the newer rides have on everything at DLR but I don't think Autopia is going anywhere anytime soon. Something more "futuristic" about it like every car on the road is electric (I think that may be a long time off) would improve it I don't think anyone likes thoses fumes cough cough

Autopia is classic Disney. Plus its for kids. I believe the CARS cars is a thrill ride. Also, my son has a heart condtion so he cant go on thrill rides. But he LOVES Autopia. :)

What? replace autotopia? No WAY! No, that is a classic!! Cars Land isn't just about another “car ride”, i'm sorry but what they did was bring back the classic flying saucers ride and re-vamped it to fit the theme as Luigi's Flying tires( I am excited for this!), so it's a little more then just another "car ride"besides the Cars Land rides are different, have you been to the blue sky cellar and looked at the rendering drawings of the new rides?..i cannot believe you just said that there is not much excitement to autotopia,to a 5 year old it is exciting! I'm sorry but I just do not agree with you!

umm yeah they will.. the two rides are totally different, besides the little kids that can't ride the new Cars ride will still go on autotopia.

You will be able to drive the cars in Cars land about as much as you can drive that crazy vehicle in Indanna Jones. Just not the same as bouncing your poor old mom off the rails in Autopia and knowing she is stuck in the car with you because DD is driving....Priceless:rotfl2:

We took DS to DLR when he was 4.5 the first time. Late morning, we were riding the train around from Toontown to NOS when he saw Autopia from the railway. All we heard for the next 6 hours was "when are we going back to drive the cars?" He finally got to drive them before dinner.

While it is well down on my list of favorites, I can't see them taking Autopia out. Although it would be nice to update the cars to electric as some have suggested.

Anyone else remember when there were TWO Autopias? Now THAT was a waste of space!

I remember the days of two Autopia's and yes it was a waste of space.

Although I'm not a big fan of this ride my DD is...so I deal with it and let her have her fun trying to drive while I sit back and try to relax....lol

Hey I bet they still have the Rocket Rod cars lying around. The kiddos could drive the whole family. :thumbsup2

I have never done Autopia. I don't know why, but not as an adult and not as a kid. Maybe it's time to give it a shot. I'm pretty used to driving through bad drivers anyway.:confused3

NO WAY! Kids LOVE this ride. It's one of the most magical things at DL when you're little, that you get to DRIVE. No where else do you get to drive cars like that, where you really control the steering, and the rails keep you in. Any other car ride my kids have done the cards are in slots and you're not really steering. IMO, that's how Autopia is Disney magic.

Now as an adult, yes, it's lame. And if I didn't have kids, I wouldn't go on it. But it's just one of the best things to see my kids get soooooo excited about getting a "drive'rs liscence" and getting to "drive". My 3 1/2 yo says this is his favorite ride, and he keeps asking to go back to DL to drive the autopia cars.

Now, revamping and electric cars, sure, I can see that. But getting rid of it would be a bad idea.
