I know renting points is possible, but I've never done it. How do you find out what's available? We're pretty flexible at this point, but the first week in May is looking good. I don't know where we want to stay, just not at POP. lol

The first thing you should do is post your needs on the rent trade board and see if someone contacts you. Know when you want to go, and offer to be flexible, giving the owner several choices of dates if necessary. The owner will not imediately know if anything is available, but will have to call. Since available units can change by the minute, it is best if the owner has some options so they can get you whatever is available that would be acceptable to you. They then make the reservation in your name, you pay them, and they send you the confirmation of the reservation that they receive from DVC in about 2 weeks.

And plan on paying for the full amount immediately or lose the reservation. There's not much time to spend figuring out payment plans, which many members won't even consider.

Renting is a private transaction between you and the owner, so all of these types of details are subject to negotiation.

The policies of how and when payment is made are all over the ballpark. Some owners require full payment before they even make the ressie, others will make the ressie and then let you make a deposit followed by full payment. However, as Deb said, you are really operating on short notice, so the owner's options are somewhat limited.

With a last minute rental like this, I think you should expect a fully non-refundable, non-changeable reservation and payment in full WELL before 31 days from checkin.

MRSANN:

We just rented points two weeks ago for a May visit. We needed a two-bedroom, which are probably in shorter supply. We didn't get our first choice, but that's cool. As long as we're on-site, it will be great. If you can go early May you can take advantage of the free park hopper/water park add-on special. That would have saved us a lot.

They would not be able to get that through DVC.That is only if you go through CRO that you get the free hopper and water parks.
