hi a friend of mine is going to wdw in september she was to go in july but she is pregnant and due end of august if everything goes ok she will have given birth 2-3 weeks before she flys and she would like to know if it would be safe for her to fly will be flying from uk approx 9 hr flight

I can't imagine flying anywhere 2 weeks after. Alot of babies are born past their due date too. Is this her first & is the baby going with her?

This is the wrong board for this question, but I'm sure a moderator will move it.

I wouldn't plan on flying 2-3 weeks after giving birth. While it's probably "safe" if your friend has a "normal" birth, she really won't feel like doing a darn thing so close to giving birth. If she has a c-section, flying would be completely out. Since she may have a c-section, she will probably want to wait until 8 weeks post-partum.

What is she planning to do with the baby? 2-3 weeks for a baby to fly is wayyyyy too young.

I agree that is probably way too soon to plan a trip -

my sister was due with her firston July 2 - he was born July 17

my little girl ended up back in the hospital at 10 days old for tests -

if she has a c-section she won't be able to fly

if there are any complications - the baby could still be in the hospital

if she decides to plan the trip anyway - make sure she gets trip insurance!! She WILL need it!!

She very well might be able to fly 2 to 3 weeks after giving birth. Of course, as other posters have said, she may not have the baby right on schedule or there could (but hopefully not) be complications that would make it impossible for her - or the baby - to make the trip.

Besides, having a baby is a very magical experience in itself. She should take the time to get to know her baby and enjoy the newness of it all. Don't get me wrong, Disney is a VERY magical place and should be experienced at most anytime. But to wait just a little while longer could be a much smarter idea...but that's just my opinion.

And the thought of doing that much walking just after giving birth could be VERY painful - YIKES! :earseek:

Best of luck to her and her baby! :flower:

She may be able to fly, but her baby might not. I was watching an episode of (UK) Airline once and the airline refused to let a woman on a flight with her 3 week old baby. It was their policy to not allow babies under a certain age due to health risks. If she's planning on flying with the baby she needs to check into that before hand.

Firstly, your friend could easily be two weeks late giving birth to her baby. Secondly, even if she has her baby on time, she will be too tired to be walking around Disney when she just had a baby 3 weeks before. Thirdly, I would not take a very young baby on an airplane unless absolutely necessary because airplanes recirculate the air and if someone on that flight has a cold or bronchitis, the baby could get very sick. A young baby just doesn't have the immune system to fight a simple cold like older children and adults -- a virus that gives an adult a cold could very well turn into pneumonia in a young infant.

Your friend should wait until the baby is older -- she should ask a pediatrician for a recommendation, but I would say 6 months or older since a baby can't even use sunblock until 6 months.

she will not be taking the baby with her her mother is keeping it and it will be her 2 child

this has GOT to be a joke, right?

I believe she will regret trying to make the trip. A 9 hour flight is tough on ANYONE let alone someone who has just given birth. I took 3 months to recover from my first birth due to complications. I was unable to walk for a week after giving birth.

I also don't think it is good for the baby to be in large crowds at that young age. Their immune system is so immature.

I think she would have a better time and have less worries if she postponed the trip until at least Nov/DEc. That's my opinion.

HOLY COW! She is leaving a 2 week old baby? I have a hard time leaving my 2 year old son for more than a few hours! I could not imagine going over seas ESPECAILLY after giving birth.
I guess if this trip means that much to her then I hope she has fun. :flower:

I cannot imagine wanting to take a trip so far away from my newborn baby. :sad2: It seems to me the right thing to do here would be to put off the trip for a few months.
Like others have said, physically for her, this would be a tough trip. It takes awhile to recover after giving birth. There's no way I could have walked around Disney at 2-3 weeks postpartum.

First, she needs to be getting advice from her doctor, not from a DIS board.

Second, I can't imagine leaving a newborn baby to go overseas to Disney.

Well aside from the fact that it's unbelievable someone should want to leave theri 2 week old baby...I would think she'd be at SERIOUS risk of a DVT travelling so soon after giving birth - especailly on a 9 hour flight!!!!!

Sorry but your friend really needs to review her priorities - can't her holiday wait a few months and then take her child with her? :confused3

Some people REALLY shouldn't have children!!!!!! :sad2:

Seriously~ her DR MUST be notified she is planning this trip.
Going 2 weeks late is VERY common, and flying 2 weeks AFTER you give birth is not for SO MANY reasons... especially internationally. :(

LOL and I felt bad for leaving my new kitty (she was adult when I got her) after only two months on my last trip.

I guess this girl must REALLY love Disney to leave a 2-week old for a trip to another continent...
