IS IT REALLY TRUE?

Our of curiosity, what were the wait times like during the week (Including Labor Day)?
Just like normal days, they peaked around noon-2p. Wait times at different attractions got up to around 45-60 minutes with some being even more. Like I remember Haunted Mansion getting up to a 70 min wait around 4pm which was kind of mind blowing to me. Lines dropped a good bit around 6p, I think.

So it looks like we will be there the same time. Did y'all get the free dinning?

Yep! We booked it on the bounce back.
Yeah, I saw an add on my computer and couldn't resist! lol So it seems like even with Labor Day the wait times aren't that bad comparatively. I have been in mid summer when we were LUCKY if a wait time was 30 or 40 minutes.

Yeah it really wasn't bad at all especially because we take breaks during the hottest/most crowded times of the day. Rope drops are your best friend because you can tons of stuff done and later in the evening is great too. I went over July 4th in 2014 and we had a blast but ugh, the lines were outrageous!

Yeah, if I don't have to wait MORE than 30-40 mins I'm good. lol So should we be good?

How's the week before Labor Day?

I wasn't there last September but, my husband and I had planned a trip arriving the day after Labor Day 2015. We ended up having to cancel but, I followed the forums and crowd calendars very closely for that week out of curiousity. I just wanted to see how the crowds were to know if that was indeed a good week to go for future reference.

I remember this forum had several threads discussing how much busier that week was than what was expected.
Even though September seems to be getting busier every year, the week after Labor Day last year seemed to be much worse than what was considered a normal yearly increase.

It will be interesting to see if that is the new normal now with all the incentives and tiered pricing or if last year was just a fluke.
I think pretty much every crowd calendar tells people that is literally like the slowest week of the year. I know if I was looking for a week to go I would zero in on that one if it was at all possible. Seems logical as more people take advantage of the incentives and advice, in turn that week would get more crowded.

I recall before we cancelled our trip I called WDW to try to change resorts for that week and was told things were really booked up and they were expecting it to be busy.
I then came on this forum and asked if this CM could be correct about that and got many replies telling me not to worry, that week is not going to be busy. Phone CM's are notoriously inaccurate so I wasn't too concerned.

Well I wasn't at WDW that week but, it sure seemed from reading this forum that the CM was correct after all. I just recall many threads complaining about how much busier that week was than what would be considered normal for that time of year.

Hopefully the week following Labor Day in 2016 will be back to the normal slower crowds. If it's crazy again I think we will have to face that another great WDW week has bitten the dust and gone the way of early December.

I'm thinking last year some of the northeast schools were a little later than normal starting, maybe because of a Jewish holiday?
Here in NYC we started school a day earlier than usual, but we had a day off every week until October for jewish and muslim holidays. This fall I think the holidays fall in October, but we start school the Thursday after Labor Day. I know next year (2017)they fall in mid-September, and we're taking advantage of that and getting a 6 day trip in, and only missing 2 days of school.

the week after Labor Day is very slow. Many schools in the Northeast and Midwest start right after labor day. Canadian schools also start after labor day. So lots of Northeastern people and Canadians go the week leading up to LD weekend, then leave LD weekend. Then everyone is back in school.

Our school system doesn't go back until after Labor Day (Kings Dominion law) and I have a friend who takes her grandchildren a few days before and after. I asked her last year how was it she was able to get all these pictures with NO ONE in the background, lol.

No, it's because it's still cold in the mornings in June up north, so they go Sept-June to get the most summer days out of summer vacation. There are very few pool days in June, and even so, the public pools aren't open until July anyway.

My 1st grader is on the exact same school schedule as I was 30 years ago. It's because of the weather.

They make the school calendar based on the kids getting the most pool days in the summer?

I dunno. It seems the slow and busy times (outside of major holidays) are evening themselves out a lot more, lately. Labor Day should still be a decent time to go, but I target cooler weather. ;)

We were there that week last year. It was the busiest we have ever seen that week. We are there again this year and really hoping last year was a fluke.

Well, you won't have our family to contend with! lol

We're heading for cooler weather this time (week after Thanksgiving). I can't really take the heat OR the crowds (though I know it's impossible to avoid the crowds entirely) so at least by going later in the year I should be avoiding the heat at least. The crowds will always be there so we're planning to hit rope drops and/or am emh to try to mitigate their impact the best we can.

I'm certain the original reason had to do with no air conditioning in schools and kids not paying attention. There just hasn't been a reason to change the calendar.
