Is it really possible that...

Boardwalk Villas has no standard view studios left the last week of September?? Do you think they are blocking rooms because of the renovation? I'd imagine if there were no standard views available, people would have to be bumped up somehow. Does this sound logical? I just can't figure out why we are being waitlisted--I thought September was a slow month.

Your views/thoughts are appreciated!

Snowgod said it all--slow times are very popular at DVC. Like I have said so many times DVC members are the most savvy guests down at WDW. They zig when most are zagging.

Also, standard views make up about 20% of the total inventory and only some of those are studios. There was a thread a while back that extrapolated the room sizes throughout the resort and it was estimated that there are something like 12 or 15 standard studios. Since BWV is all lockoffs for two bedroom units, that number could go up or down depending on demand for different room types.

Finally, they are renovating a good portion of the standard rooms at the moment, but by September should be moving on to another section. I'm not sure how much that is affecting your availability right now.

Standard view rooms make up less than 20% of the available rooms at BWV. The lower point requirements make them a popular choice of the members, even in the "slower" seasons.

Standard view rooms often book up at the 11 month window and are frequently requested via waitlist. Many times, they are not even available at the 7 month window. It is rare to get one only 3 or 4 months ahead of time. That doesn't mean it never happens that close to arrival, just that more often, it doesn't!

According to the BW General Manager, the rehab project is scheduled to be completed in August or September. I'm reasonably sure the full complement of standard view rooms was/is available for booking for September stays.

Sorry you didn't get what you want. It doesn't hurt to waitlist as people's plans do change. Just don't count on it coming through - you'll need a back up plan. Good luck!

Not surprising at all that the standard views are booked.
We requested standard view two-bedroom for the second week in October on the first day of the 7-month window, and none were available. We were able to get preferred view and have been waitlisted for standard view since that time. The standard views are VERY popular, due to the lower points.

DVD has no obligation that I am aware of to make rooms available at standard rates if the standard rooms aren't available when a reservation is requested. The only time I could see them "bumping up" someone to preferred is if they confirmed a standard view with standard point rates and when the person checked in, there were no standard rooms available.

There is no surprise. You should always expect no availability for standard view at seven months. If there ever is availability, its only because of a very recent cancellation. If you are planning a stay at BWV and need to use the seven month window, you have to plan on prefered points.

Getting a SV would just be a lucky bonus.

Granny--I was referring to those people who may have booked a standard view to find none available at check-in due to the renovations. This is why I posed the question in the first place. I was hoping that the renovations had something to do with the lack of available rooms, but I see that is not the case. My thought was that maybe these rooms were being blocked off by MS somehow until the renovations were done so that they could avoid upgrading. I was not familiar with how fast these rooms go before reading these posts. I would never expect to be upgraded.

Thanks everyone!

Whenever you really want a particular room type, etc. that is not available, try the wait list. Things shift all the time and what is not available today may become available in a day or two.
