I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this (I'm new here), but is it possible to stay in a value or mod for a family of 5 -2 adults, 2 kids (9 years), 1 infant (2 years) - for a minimum of 8 nights, 5 days in park (no hopper or WP) and the DDP for around $2000?

Please forgive me if this isn't the right place. If this is better suited elsewhere, can you please steer me in the right direction? TIA!

*ETA* I'm hoping to go in September 1015

My best suggestion is to go onto the Disney web site and put in your dates and add the tickets and the DDP. Different nights cost different prices so it's hard to answer your question. Also any kids under three do not count. They are free.

The last reply is a good start, however, consider that every year there has been a free dining promo in the fall. So let's say you stay at Pop Century. Right now an 8 night stay at the end of Sept in Pop Century (if you are ok with your 2 year old sleeping in a pack and play) would run you $2279 for 5 day park tickets and 8 nights. If you can get free dining - then the price would be around that?? I think. Can't say for certain. Also, note that if you say your child is 2 when you are searching for rooms - it will tell you that you've exceeded the room occupancy and it can't find any rooms. If you say your child is an infant then it is ok - but like I said, this is with the understanding that your child will be staying in a pack and play (or sleeping in bed with you). Otherwise, you'd have to move up to Port Orleans Riverside where they have an occupancy up to 5, and then the price goes up.

There are too many variables at this point because the only way you're going to be able to stay close to it is with the Free Dining. You're going to have to wait for the free dining promos to start rolling out in the late spring/early summer next year. Sign up on the Disney website and hopefully you'll get a "pin" (special promo codes they e-mail out - it is completely randomized who gets them). Just looked through my e-mails and the first one I got this year for free dining in the fall was in May . Hope this helps.

Really good information above...

One thing I would add is that if you get FD and are staying at a value it is usually the Quick Service Dining Plan (QSDP) not the DDP. If you get FD and want the DDP you would have to upgrade to a Moderate. At least, this is what I have read on this board.

Another thing to consider, if you really wanted the DDP instead of just quick Service, you can 'buy up'. For example, you're staying at Pop Century during a free dining promo. That includes the QSDP. You really want to do a couple character meals and sit down meals that week, so you want to buy-up to the regular dining plan. that cost (with current plan prices) would be $18.05/day for each adult and $3.20/day per child for a total of $42.50/day or $340 for an 8 night stay. PLUS at least another $140-160 in tips. Or about $500 total.

That might not seem so bad, but then you have to remember that you are now obligated to 8 sit down meals. To get your 'money's worth' out of the plan, you want each of those sit down meals to be worth the value of a quick service meal PLUS the price difference. Some restaurants are better values on the plan than others. If you absolutely must have a sit down dinner every night, buying-up is your best option. If you don't mind counter service for most dinners and just need one character meal and 1 or 2 other sit down meals, you'll save money buy paying for those out of pocket.

For example, you want a character meal and manage to get a ressie for Cinderella's Royal Table (price there includes tip!) Your total for that would be $215.82. Then you want one nice quiet family dinner and decide to do Ohana, that would total $120.31 +tip (so, for me, it would be $145). Those two would total $360.82. You decide you still have some room left in the budget and squeeze in a character breakfast at Crystal Palace (breakfasts are cheaper!) for $72+15tip ($87 total). That takes your total to about $448, still less than "buying up", and, remember, you have the 3 meal credits left that you would have used on those meals if you'd bought up, so you are actually getting 19 meals (16 CS, 3 TS) for less than the price of 16 (8CS, 8TS).

Your budget is incredibly tight, and the only way you'll stay close to it is if you get free dining. That said, if you keep an eye out for the discounts and plan really well, then you may come in under $2500. I'd also look into other discounts available like stacking the YES program with a room only discount and paying out of pocket for food (Although free dining would beat that hands-down).

I haven't priced out your trip....
And I agree, this far out there are too many unknowns.

Is it possible to take a trip to WDW for under $2000, YES!!

One way I moderate costs is to reduce our total nights.

Another way is to skip the DDP. The DDP doesn't save money, it just locks you into prepaid, prescribed meals. If the DDP would have cost us $xxx per day, we can usually eat for less simply by eating what we choose to eat.

The QS DDP is a money loser.

We have often found we do better with room-only discounts. At the mods, that is often the case. "free dining' is not free food, it is just one style of room discount Disney offers. You only get it if you buy all the rest of your vacation - non-discounted- from Disney.

So another easy trick to bring down WDW costs is to stay your arrival/departure nights off WDW property. Or buy your tickets through a reputable non-WDW ticket seller.

Another big way I reduce the cost of our trips to FL is to carefully look at our transportation costs. Airfare, rental cars, etc are HIGHLY variable.
