Without car hire, for us (2 adults, 3 children) to leave one of the parks at say 4 o' clock ish and eat out somewhere off Disney and then come back to the parks or will this realistically take too long on public transport.

Cheers.

It would be very difficult and time consuming, maybe impossible. You can get a Lynx bus (Orlando area public transportation) at the TTC, but you'd have to figure out which bus to take to the restaurant you want to visit, and then hope that the bus stop is somehow near that restaurant. And the odds of that would be slim.

Is there a particular off-site restaurant you're interested in?

If you are considering this because you believe you'll save money by eating offsite, I would say that you'll never save enough to make the inconvenience worthwhile. Offsite eating may be cost-effective for those who have their own car with them, otherwise you'd need to rent a car, or get a taxi, and the cost of that would offset any savings on food.

Thats pretty much the answer I didnt want but thought I would get

I was hoping to try to save on food costs by eating something big for breakfast, go to the park with some snacks (or buy something cheap at lunch time) but then to have something substantial at 5 ish. Back to the drawing board for my plans........

Public Transportation is historically....NOT efficient or appealing and will take way too long. PLEASE..Stay on property and you'll have ALOT of time to do what you want.

Sorry that I had to be the bearer of bad news.

Using public transportation is fine for going from WDW up to Sea World, but for what you want to do, it's just not workable.

You also have to look at the value you're getting from your park passes. If you spend a couple of hours going to some chain restaurant off property, that's wasted time on your park pass.

Maybe the table service places might be a little out of your budget, but there's a great variety of counter service food at WDW, and it's not all that expensive.

You can also consider going to a TS place and splitting a meal; people do that all the time.

Be sure to check out the Budget board here on the DIS, you'll find all sorts of money-saving ideas.

Im British so Ill probably find that your transport is way better than what we are used to even if you dont think its good :)

As for staying on property, I dont have that option now. Im going next Friday and am booked to stay on I drive. It sounds as if Im better splitting my meals between some "counter service" and some table service but all on site....should be within my budget. If not I'll just tell the kids that they cant eat :)

Cheers for all the replies folks!!!
