Hi, i was wondering when i arrive at the asmovie if i was to call a cab and have them take me to the supermarket out of disney to pick up waters & snacks if they would charge me alot or if this was a good idea. would love to hear what other people have done. thanks

Cola, I think you will get some excellent advice if I move this to our Transportation Board for you.

I'm not sure how much the cab would cost, but Tiffany Town Car will make a 30 minutes grocery stop on the way from the airport. I think round trip transportation with Tiffany is about $80.00.

My guess is it would cost in the 10.00 range one way - but I am not sure. I just travel with my snacks, water, soda in a separate piece of luggage and then use that for purchases on the return trip. I just don't want to waste any time on vacation shopping for snacks.

Liz- Please be careful doing this. My husbands suitcase and clothing were destroyed by someone who did this. It got cold enough in the cargo bay that the soda began to freeze and expand breaking the seals on the bottles. Then when things warmed up again, it leaked all over the inside of their suitcase, and out of it. It dripped down onto DH's suitcase and leaked into it. The end result was not pretty, and cost us quite a bit of money and vaction time replacing much of his clothing. The airline denied responsibility, and wouldn't tell us who the people were who caused the mess, just what had happened. That carrier is now out of business.

As far as answering the question, I think it would be at least $15 each way. For that price, you'd be better off just picking things up in the shop at the hotel. Or take a bus to the Marketplace, then get a cab to Goodings, taht would probably only be $3-4 each way.

I am careful

We got this idea from a woman who travels with her child who has very special food needs.

Specifically this is what we do:

I bought two of the cooler that have the soft sides but the plastic insert liners that make them basically waterproof -- we have to change ice at the hotel more often than say a THermos cooler but nothing leaks out.

We fill the coolers with frozen bottles of ice and regular cans of soda (not bottles). We do not add ice to this mix of course until we get to the hotel.

We put both of those coolers on top of one another and then wrap in two plastic garbage bags. Then both of these cooler go in a stand up type duffel bag on wheels.

Seems like alot of trouble but it works for me -- and as for things leaking - I have had more trouble with a bottle of shampoo in an overnight bag so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Ducklite -

After the post submitted I saw your name! Haven't seen you in a long time! I was just thinking about your less than stellar GF concierge experience the other day! We are headed the Polynesian concierge in a couple of weeks!

I second the suggestion for the Towncar service with 30 minute grocery stop!!! I think it's 80 round trip... not a bad price at all, especially since you'll pay at least 20.00 for a taxi to go to the store... The other thing you could do is pack a suitcase of snacks & just buy the drinks at the AS Movies...

We travel with a cooler that seals, one of those "ultimate" coolers that claim to keep ice for 4 dyas. We put a luggage "belt" around it to make sure it stays closed.

Also, there's a shop in Dowtown Disney called "Gourmet Pantry" that has lots of food items, not as cheap as a grocery store, but by the time you pay Taxi to get there, and time it takes, might be worth it. Also , the resort gift shops do sell some food.

Another option is Net Grocer. Myself, I plan to send a shipment of snacks and bottled water to myself at the resort. I will send it out the day before Thanksgiving, and we arrive Sat after Thanksgiving. I have read that the Disney Resorts will hold it for you till you arrive, then they even deliver it to your room after check in.

Hope my information is correct.

would love to know what net grocer is. Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks
