No one in my family is big on fireworks and loud noises, so this has never been on my list and I don't want to go out of way much to see it.

Is it possible to walk up close to start time and be able to see it?

Just wondering if I should bother.

Thanks

Michele

Hi PolyAddict,

Well, it looks like you'll be there Memorial Day weekend and into the first week of June. My gut reaction is that you won't get a seat at that time of year, but I can't say for sure.

The only time I'd try walking up is during the off-season and even then I'm not sure it would work. Maybe someone who has actually tried it could shed more light.

Good luck,

Bob

the worst that could happen is you walk back...

but please know... fantasmic is *Not* fireworks and big noises... it's an amazingly choreographed water lights character fire tells a story show... so much more than fireworks... you may want to find some reviews and see if your family does not change their mind...

Hey! Well its a long long long walk from the main street (by Tot) to the actual theater. This is the "line" and it gets very filled up. We were inside going to get a snack at a vendor and saw this huge mass of people, I don't think they'd be able to see anything. its a lot more than fireworks- its an awesome show if you get a chance to see it :)

This past week we got there 1/2 early and only got standing-room only and it was not as enjoyable -- you should see it and if you do, get there 1 hour before -- I know, it's hard-core but standing room is not as fun.

We tried walking up about a 1/2 hour before the show one year in early June and there was no way we could get in. The CM told us there were more people in line than there were seats left.

We did the FDP last June and had decent seats, but honestly we were pretty disappointed in the show. I know we're in the minority on that though.

Hi PolyAddict,

We just got back last week, Fantasmic was wonderful!! Our experience was that at the 8:30 show, they announced standing room only while we were walking in (at about 7:30). Since friends of ours saw it that way (standing) the week before and their kids couldn't see at all we turned around. Luckily it was an Extra Hours night at MGM so they had a 10:00 show for resort guests only. There was a LONG line at 9:30 before they opened the gates but we got in with no problem at all and at least at this show, the end sections on each end were empty. I don't know if there was a reason for it or if it was just not that full. Anyway, it was well worth the little bit of trouble. BTW, TOT and RnRC had much shorter lines during the show. I second the statement that it is not a fireworks show, it is much more (lights, water, characters, songs, etc.) My 11 yr old didn't want to bother seeing it but boy was he happy we made him afterwards.

Have fun,

I'm guessing it depends entirely on the crowds (and how many times Fantasmic is presented...some nights it is just one show, other times, there will be 2 shows).

We were there in mid-April and we went to the 10pm show and walked up (with plenty of room to spare) at five 'til ten.

I'm afraid we were also in the minority and were not terribly impressed. I mean, it was nice (in a nightmarish kind ofway ;) ) but it was not even CLOSE to my favorite thing to do at MGM (I think the evening shows at MK and Epcot are better...but they just suit my taste better, I suppose)...

I get tired of shielding my 4 yr. old from the 'scary' stuff and there are a few spots in Fantasmic that made her cover her eyes. I'm glad I saw it, but it will not make my 'short list' of must do's on the next trip.

When there are two shows, you can usually get into the second one without any significant wait.

Thanks for the responses!!

All of you have good points.

I honestly don't think it will be a big hit with my crew, so I don't want to waist alot of time on it.

Hard to pull them away from TOT and RNR for no good reason.

I was hoping maybe for a walk up it would be ok.

We will play it by ear.

Michele

Mid-June and walked right in. I think it may have been the late show though. We saw the huge line and waited till they all got in then went in. Next time we did the dinner thing and didn't think the reserved seats were all that great. You are off to the side. This was the only way to get DH in. We're not about standing in line for shows or parades. We always wait to the last minute and if we get in we get in if we don't oh well. Good luck!

I also have a son that cant handle the noise from fireworks, have you tried the soft foam ear plugs you can get at Wal Mart or Target? My son is now 19 and has been using these for years, his one teacher bought him a CASE of the things!! :rotfl2: (he's that sensitive, when he started Cross Country, he would have to plug his ears due to the starter gun causing him ear pain!! Hence the case of ear plugs!!)
