Is it possible to walk from Marriot to Disneyland Gates?

We are staying at the Marriott on W Convention Way. From what my DH says, it is about a block from Disneyland and apparantly you can see the park from the hotel. However...when I mapquested it, it said it was a 2 mile drive. I realize mapquest isn't always accurate and maybe it has to take you out of the way to get you there.

So is it possible to walk there from our hotel? Hoping to be able to walk right to the gate and not have to take a tram or anything.

Thanks,
Jes

First, look at this map. http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html

By hotel-speak, yes, it's a block away from DLR. But you'd be arrested if you tried to get into the park at that block away area.

I would think it's very doable, if you're big walkers. You have to get over to Harbor, walk up to Katella, cross it, and walk up Harbor to the area across from IHOP labeled Entrance Plaza. There's still a walk from there to security (it's not that you're immediately IN the parks at the Entrance Plaza).

If there are roads going west from your hotel (and I have a feeling that "blank" area is the convention center so there might not be) you could go west on Katella and then up Disneyland Drive, enter Grand Californian and take the shortcut into DownTown Disney. But I'm not sure it's possible to easily get up that way, since I think the Convention center is in your way.

Now, I have heard that there's a smaller parking lot in that southeast corner of the park as shown on that map, up behind Candy Cane Inn and such. If that lot is open, you can go in (even if you walk) and catch a tram up the street if you'd like).

But a block away according to a hotel is NEVER to be trusted; the important part is being a block away from the entrance plaza.

Wow what a great map! We were at the Marriott last summer and are staying again this summer. For us, too far to walk. We drove to the Disneyland parking garage (no fun). We are thinking of taking the hotel shuttle this time.

I havent stayed there but would u consider staying at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. Its closer and feels more disney-ish to me. Rooms are small but it is fairly priced.

Thanks for all the replies. I have called the Marriot and they do offer a shuttle. Seems like it might add up after a few days and trips but it is an option. ($3 each way pp per day)

My husband might be able to drop us off and pick us off.

Unfortunately, the main reason we are going to Anaheim is because my husband has to go for work. He didn't get to pick the hotel, it just happens to be the hotel where the work stuff is going on. (If I got to pick, I would definitely stay in a Disney hotel!!!) But I can't be too sad, because my DD and I get to tag along and go to Disneyland for four days!!

Thanks again!
Jes

Well....

Its actually possible to walk from anywhere to anywhere. Doesn't matter where you start from, if you want to end up at the gates, just walk to the gates.

WACKA WACKA WACKA!

We've stayed at the Marriott on Convention Way before, and it's very nice. The $3 shuttle that you mentioned is the ART. There's a stop right in front of the Marriott.

Your sig indicates your DD is 15. I think the walk wouldn't be bad at all for you both. We walked the walk when our DDs were 3 and 6 -- at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day. We took the S. Harbor route. There were loads of other people walking the route as well. There was the odd day that we took a cab back to the hotel at the end of the day because the 3-year-old was starting to fall asleep. Even that wasn't so bad as the cab fare was under $10. Have a great time!!!

Hey Jes, you will like the Marriott! We really enjoyed it last summer. Starbucks in the lobby!;)
I think we will try the shuttle (maybe) this time. We tried having DH drop us off and then park in the garage and catch up to us, but it didn't work and he missed riding Nemo with us.

c&m - I feel like such a looser! It just looked to far to walk, but knowing that you did it with small children makes me feel better about being able to walk! DD and her friend are 14 yo, so I think we can!

The $3 shuttle that you mentioned is the ART. There's a stop right in front of the Marriott.!

If that's true, I think that ART offers an all-day pass for $3 per person, so look into doing that instead of what the hotel seems to be offering.

Random Villains, you're funny. :goodvibes I want to walk to the Disneyland gates right now!

I live in Tacoma WA. How long do you think that'll take me as soon as I put on my walking shoes?:cool2:

I think your DH dropping you off would be a great plan. There is a little drop off area right at the Entrance Plaza for taxis, cars, etc. I think there are 20 minute parking spots there as well. That would be ideal. The last thing you're going to want is a 20 minute walk back to your hotel after a long day at the parks...

Kimmie -- OMG! It's amazing how much and what you can make small children do when they know they're going to Disneyland that day. They couldn't run fast enough to the DL front gates!:rotfl: And at the end of the day, they were so tired, they couldn't run fast enough back to the hotel! Good training though...today, they are involved in track & field and cross-country running.

Bumbershoot -- I asked the Marriott front desk if they had their own shuttle (since they had advertised a shuttle service). However, they just pointed me to the ART stop that was just outside their front entrance. So unless things have changed, I believe the shuttle they are talking about is the ART.

Thanks so much!! This is why I love the DIS! I got more information here than I could get out of the Marriott!

I think it is the ART that Marriot was referring to. I found the ART website and there are passes you can buy so it is definitely cheaper than I thought it would be. We like to take mid day breaks to rest and I figured going back and forth a few times a day would add up. But you can get a 3 day pass for $8 and a 5 day pass for $12 (although no four day pass, hmmm.....lol)

Anyway, thanks to everyone again...I am feeling so much better now that I know this. I didn't want my husband to have to worry about transporting us with him having to work and I am sure more often than not we will be getting back from the parks after he is asleep! =D

Forgot to add...the walk doesn't sound that bad either! For some reason I had it in my head that it was much more than 20 minutes AND I was also worried about walking home at night (alone!).

Thanks again to all.

Glad everyone could help.

The one thing you rarely have to worry about when staying offsite is walking home alone. Unless you're getting the parks 2 hours before opening or leaving 2 hours after everything has closed, there will pretty much always be some other tourist around. :goodvibes

I remember feeling WAY too alone on the walk back to Anabella one night (although that walk takes you right past Paradise Pier so I wasn't really alone), and then a couple joggers went by! Happened in the morning, too.

I would say it would be a 25 minute walk (for fast walkers, not slow pokes) from your hotel to the front gate of the park.

THere is a 5 day pass for the ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) that is only $12 per adult ($4 for kids I think). This lets you use it all day for those 5 days as many times as you want. Worth every penny.

Looking at this map, where is gardenwalk at/going to be?? We are staying at Worldmark Anaheim in March and it is by gardenwalk.

Yahoo! is balking at bringing up the map - seems too people hitting are hitting that site. I'm looking at another map and GardenWalk is between Disney Way and Katella Ave on Harbor Blvd. It's reachable by most ART routes. If you're walking to the entrance plaza from the Convention Center, it's on your way, except you'd have to cross Harbor Blvd..

The walk is not that bad... I used to stay at the Anaheim Hilton which is right across the street. There is a pathway between Anaheim Hilton and the convention center. that leads to the intersection in the middle of Katella. From there you can enter into the Lion King parking lot where you can take the tram right to the entrances of both parks. If it takes you more than 15 minutes to get there you are slow!

I just mapped out the walk on google earth and it it 6/10ths of a mile from the front of your hotel to the lion king tram. 10 min to walk 5 min waiting for crosswalk and lion king tram ride!

Here is a map of the route I was talking about. FYI when i was there they were running the Lion King parking tram even though they were redirecting cars to park in the main parking lot. anyways click this link to see the short walk map: http://64.128.14.168/marriott-to-dl.jpg
