Is it possible to "transfer" a car rental reservation to someone else?

I have 2 cars reserved for my upcoming trip in February -- a compact and an intermediate. I've decided to keep the intermediate and cancel the compact. I got a good rate on the compact, and I know that car rental rates have really shot up. So I got to wondering if I'd be able to offer my compact reservation to someone else and just have the name changed.

(Assuming there's someone else who would even want a compact for the same dates... )

Anyone know the answer to this?

Sorry, but most rental car companies are very specific about requiring that a reservation be used by the person named in the reservation.
