Did the dining plan last year, and did not like being tied to ADR'S with 2 small kids. Still contemplating Quick Service dining plan, but wondering if some people do OOP and split meals? We will have a fridge in our room, and would like to know which restaurants are good to split meal at? We are not big eaters at all, and we don't go there to eat, but to play.:)

I know a lot of families do a double cheeseburger and share it between two people. The meals at Pepper Market at CSR are big enough for two, but kind of pricey if you're not on the plan (but great for the Quick Service Dining Plan!). Other than that.. we do mostly buffet or AYCE so I can't help much:confused3 Earl of Sandwich is pretty affordable but not necessarily a place to split meals.

I usually share a meal with one of my DDs (we don't do the dining plan). Here are a few places that I can remember where we shared:

Roast chicken meal at Whispering Canyon
Terriyaki steak at Kona Cafe
Steak and shrimp at Yak & Yeti
Chicken parmesan at Mama Melrose
Steak sandwich at Beaches and Cream (left a little room for a sundae!)
Fish meal at Rose and Crown
Chicken/Rib meal at Cosmic Rays
Most anything at Rainforest cafe!
Chinese meal at Coronado
pulled pork sandwich at Coronado
pizza meal with salad at Toy Story Pizza planet

DH& I shared a steak sandwich at Sci Fi and he got a chili appetizer too

Dh and I split CS meals. On our last DDP trip the kids needed to eat 3 times a day so, doing only one counter service and one TS wasn't going to help. So, what we did was split a counter service breakfast and lunch. We would order just one meal at breakfast and lunch and split it. This way we ate smaller portions but more frequently. Then, we did one TS service for dinner.

We're not big eaters either and share meals at Disney all the time. I agree with all the other suggestions. Let me add T-rex to the list. My hubby and I split the chicken and ribs platter. We ate until we were stuffed and still took home a full meal's worth.

My DD and I often split meals.

My DH & I split a meal at the Tangierine Cafe in Morocco -- a counter-service place. The schwarma platter was so big that we didn't finish it.

Wow!!! Makes me wonder what I should do. Sharing meals seems like a great option. Thanks!!!!:yay:

My mom and I are lighter eaters, and we always share at the Brown Derby (we split the Cobb Salad two ways). If that's your entree, that really keeps the price on that meal down. Another place we share is Rainforest Cafe; we get the Passport to Paradise pizza and split it between the two of us, and my dad gets a slice to go with his chicken wings appetizer. We also split the macaroni, cream, and cheese at Chefs de France between the three of us (we each order a soup as well).

A lot of the CS places sell sandwiches and/or wraps that are entirely too big for us to eat individually, so my mom and I will usually order one and split it. We used to waste a lot of money and food ordering my mom and I each a wrap or sandwich. Now, at most places (not all, mind you), we know better and just order one.

Have fun, fellow Braves fan! :wizard:

When DH and I were at WDW last fall, we found that at CS places, we often got a meal combo and a kids' meal, then shared off each other's plates. I always saved the packaged kids' sides (like carrots, grapes, etc.) until last so if we weren't still hungry, we took them along to eat in line.

We found that we saved fodd-line time eating a cold breakfast (granola bars, Poptarts, donuts, OJ, etc.) in our room or waiting for the bus, having a snack at 10:30 or 11, eating a late lunch about 2 or 3, and a late dinner about 8:30 or so. We're not the slow-down-for food types unless we have a reservation.

Yes you can split meals. We do that sometimes too. Its another reason to NOT do the dining plan.

My DH and I split lunch everyday and sometimes dinner. We just aren't big eaters, plus we love to have a Mickey Bar (I never share those!) as a snack in the afternoon. :goodvibes

I've always wondered this same thing. We are a family of 5 and not doing the dining plan. My oldest daughter and I always share meals at home, it works out great for us.

My question is, are there some places that won't allow you to share, and are there some places that charge extra to share?

Thanks:)

I love that the search function works on here! I was just wondering this same thing (actually the exact same question as I quoted) and thought I'd bump this thread instead of starting a new one.

Don't ask me why, but I always feel "weird" splitting an entree at a sit down restaurant. But sometimes trying to save money (and lose weight) trumps any odd feelings I have about it.

So let's hear it. Does any place frown on splitting a meal between two adults?

We've never been given a hard time sharing meals at WDW. And never a charge.

Well, the waitress at Whispering Canyon Cafe told the whole restaurant that my DD ordered the "diet plate" (it was an extra plate for the chicken meal that we ordered to share). :rotfl: DD was mortified!! :scared1: But you gotta expect that at Whispering Canyon.

DH and I split meals in disney and most other places we travel. If a meal comes with a salad, I order another side salad for me and split the meal. We got chicken tenders meal with side and split it so we could both get a mickey bar later. If its someplace we arent familiar with, we ask server how large the portion is- and tell them we may split. I have never been steered wrong that way.

At both SciFi and Beaches and Cream, when DH and I split a hamburger and fries, they automatically placed each half on two different plates so we didn't have to divvy it up when the food came to us. Very nice of them.
