We need only 8 points to get a 2 bedroom for our entire 10 day stay at WDW in January..is it possible to just rent the number of points we need- or not? Thanks very much!

I'm a newbie, by the way, to the board although not to the DVC.

You would need to have "partial points needed" transferred to your account so you could make a reservation for one night. It might be easier to have someone book a night for you and then link it to the rest of your reservation.

Enjoy ... and Welcome to the DIS!

Welcome to the DIS!!!! :bounce: :sunny:

I have rented just a few points from another member... they transfered them into my account.

Try posting on the Rent/Trade board I also suggest reading the FAQ there.

Good luck! And once again WELCOME!!!

I actually have a few leftover points. You can e-mail me at rombar@aol.com if you are interested in having me transfer the 8 points to your account - I would need $10 per point transferred to my paypal account at which time I would immediately call member services and have them do the transfer - you would have to provide me with your name and membership number.

Not true... Your name and City maybe street is needed but not your membership number.

Excuse me but I just did this today for someone else that needed 8 points. Member services specifically asked me to get their member number and asked for it again when I was making the transfer.

WOW! I doubt I would give my member number out to another member! I can't believe MS is requiring that!

This is another example of...it depends on who at MS is taking your call. Annoying, but true.

I've transferred INTO other members accounts on 4 occasions during the last 16 months and the process differed from one transfer to the next. The first transfer was processed via a conference call where I DID NOT gain access to the member number of the member recieving the points. The second transfer was processed with the member number after MS indicated they WOULD NOT do the conference call. The last 2 transfers the member volunteered their member number and the transfer was processed using their number instead of a conference call.

I have to admit that I would feel uncomfortable giving out my member number and I understand if others prefer not to give it to me.

Based on past experience I find having the recieving members member number simplifies the process but they will do a conference call IF YOU GET someone in MS who is willing to do so.

Would having someones member number allow reservations to be made under that number, or is there some other type of security besides the number, say social security number?

I emailed MS in the past before regarding whether you need the transferee's Member# and they clearly said that no, you don't. You only need the full name, and mailing address of the transferee.

This year MS has been better about verifying your identity when you call them (usually last 4 digits of SSN, which I have issues with as really it should be something else other than SSN, but I guess it's still better than nothing). But not 100% of the CMs will always verify your identity each time you call.
And reservations can be made via email or online that don't require any identity verification at all.

I guess some unscrupulous person could pretend to be you and use your Member# to make a reservation in their name, and use the reservation before you ever find out about it. That's the real security issue.

I have always been asked for the last 4 digits of my social. This year I had some extra points due to an add-on and did a few transfers. I was asked for the people's member number every single time.

But they will only send the reservation confirmation to the member's home address, correct?
