We're visiting HS on 9/9 & wondering...

Is it possible to rope drop at Hollywood studios, go quickly to Toy Story Mania & ride it at least twice *without* fastpass?

It's possible, there's just no telling how long it will take you. Your second ride will probably have a longer line wait. It's possible to ride any ride twice at RD without FP+, no one's going to guarantee it will be quick though!

I went yesterday, was able to get a ride of rocknroller coaster, tower of terror and toy story done within 70 minutes without fastpasses. If we just did toy story back to back I assume we would've gotten at least 3 rides in that time probably 4.

Right! I forget to mention...quickly! Haha! We'll have 3 kids, ages 2-13 & the littlest is very antsy. Long lines are definitely not his thing! We want to save our tier 1 FP for rockin roller coaster for the older kids, but I know the littlest will want to ride TSM twice.

Wow!! That's great! Thanks for the response!!

We were there during the low early June crowds. We rode it once at RD but decided not to wait the posted 30 minutes to ride again.

since there is a 3 track you can sometimes get a 4 fP for this ride, I would RD it and then get in line again, the line should not be liner then 20-30 minutes

Just a suggestion...you may already have made alternative plans but this is what i did. :) My kids were 2, 6, and 9. I split the fast passes and used child swap. We took the 2 year old to the RNRC queue and obtained a child swap fast pass. My older two then rode with dad on RNRC while I took the 2 year old on toy story using my fast pass. Then I could ride RNRC at any point later in the day with the older two using the child swap fast pass paper ticket. They got to ride RNRC twice and the little one got to ride Toy Story instead of just waiting. Of course by this point in our vacation the little one was not happy that he was the only one too short to go on the big rides and we needed a distraction! :)

The closing of GMR will reduce capacity and FP opportunities at HS for a while.

We've been able to ride TSMM 4 times in less than an hour without FP+ in the evening on several ocassions during the summer. I hear that it's much more crowded in the morning.

Just keep in mind that the posted wait times can be greatly exaggerated at night to deter late night riders.

totally possible and I have done it basically every trip. Last trip with the new side open we managed to do it 6 times throughout the day with only one fast pass it was magic

If your little one loves toy story, I also recommend splitting your fast passes between space mountain and buzz light year in magic kingdom. Use the child swap to get a fast pass for later and then let the little one ride buzz while waiting for the big ones to ride space mountain. Even with fast passes, it seemed to take 30 minutes to get through the line and that's a lot of waiting for the little one.

Last year around that time in Sept (9/7) I was able to get 4th, 5th and 6th fastpasses for TSMM. We would walk in the fastpass line and as soon as we were through the 2nd checkpoint I would be able to add a new one that basically started by the time we were out of line. I do not know how the closing of the great movie ride will change everything, but the addition of the 3rd track seems to really help the capacity.

I've done this, yes. It's easier in lower season and has been much less crowded the last couple of years :)

I'm thinking your little one can't stay up that late but... If you can last until 15-30 minutes before closing TSM is a walk on ride:) Last July we rode it back to back 3 times. It was a lot of fun!

We found it to be much better at closing than RD. Last year we did RD during EMH and it was 45 minutes by the time we walked there (posted time and actual wait time). It the evening we got 4/56/ fastpass around an hour before closing. We went in early/mid June.
