Is it possible to build an affordable outdoor kitchen?

Hi,
I would really like to have some sort of outdoor cooking area for our patio. I've been looking at ideas for months and I'm flexible on the design... a long island or L shape is fine, something simple but definitely nice. I see that there are kits that you can buy to do them yourself, but we'll still have to hire a mason, unless there are some sort of stone-like panels that can be installed easily:confused3 I would love to have a small fridge and a sink, but those can be cut if it becomes too expensive. My DH can do electrical and probably plumbing work... he says he can probably do the brick work, but I'm thinking we should hire a mason;)

Looks like the prices are all over the place, but I have to keep it $5000 or less... I would really like it to be around $3k. Is this possible? Has anyone used one of the kits, or bought one prefabricated? Any recommendations on places to get the kit/kitchen if so? I've looked at some local stores, but they were minimum $10k.

Thanks for any advice!
