Is it possible to add a day to our DLR tickets?

We leave May 8 th for DL and have 3 day PH's thru Costco travel. Our plan for our 4th day is to go to Legoland specifically for the water park. I have noticed temps are somewhat cooler than I expected..... If we decided to pass on Legoland (which would be my vote) can I add a day to our DL tickets instead of having to buy one day passes?

Yes! It's quite easy; just take your tickets to the ticket window. Keep in mind two things, though:

1. You have to do it while your tickets are still valid. That is, do it before the end of the day of your last valid park day.

2. You'll lose any discount you got. You'll pay the full amount of a 4 day pass minus whatever you actually paid for your Costco 3 day hopper.

Which is likely the promo price, so take the gate price of the 4 day and subtract $199.

We booked through Costco and added extra days but they told us we had to do it at Walt Disney Travel Company in DTD. They are only open until 2:30 though so keep that in mind. We added on 2 extra days and it was about 20-30 dollars each person each day extra I think.

This is incorrect, you can do this at the ticket booth. Unless it's changed since 2011, we added days to our park hoppers twice in April 2011 and we did it at the ticket booths.

Maybe you can but I called the reservation number where I booked through Costco and this is what they told me I needed to do. So I would recommend calling them first so you don't run around waisting time.

I just wanted to make sure that you knew that during the off-season, the Legoland waterpark is not open all the time. For much of the winter, it is closed entirely, but during your trip dates, it will be open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 and closed the rest of the week. I'd STRONGLY lean toward the extra DL day instead of a chilly day at Legoland

I haven't personally done an upgrade, so I admit my knowledge isn't firsthand. My brother, however, has done an upgrade on more than one occasion. When his tickets were part of a package, he found that if he went and upgraded at the Walt Disney Travel Company office in DtD, he only had to pay the difference between promo prices meaning whatever the cost difference was between a 4-day promo/advance purchase ticket and a 5-day promo ticket. He was told at the ticket booth that if he wanted to upgrade there, that he had to pay the difference between his 4-day price promo ticket and a 5-day regular price ticket. I don't know if it's still done that way, but if so, it would seem the cost advantage might be in upgrading in DtD but the time advantage might be in doing it at the ticket booths.
