Is it possible? (reservation booking question)

We’re looking to return to Disney World next August. Is it possible to book two separate Disney hotels with a gap in the middle when we will be off site visiting family and still use one 5 day ticket?

We would be onsite for 3 days then offsite visiting family for 2 nights and then return to our on-site hotel for another 3 days.

Can I buy 5 day tickets and have them cover both reservations as long as I stay within the window for using the 5 day ticket? It will be cheaper to buy 5 day tickets than a set of 3 day tickets for the first stay and a set of 2 day ticket for the second stay.

Would I be able to make park and dining reservations the same as if we had one continuous stay or will this complicate our planning? I’d like to save a little on the tickets if possible but not at the expense of complicating our planning too much.

Thank you!

No this will be 2 reservations with (2) 60 day windows for your 2 stays. First window will open at 60 days and then your second reservation ADR window will open after 4 days. Your first stay + 1 day off site.

On the tickets check the latest rules as to how long your 5 day tickets are valid they are not tied to your reservation unless you purchased "Length of Stay" tickets.

I believe you'll be fine so long as you use your tickets inside the usage window with your first disney hotel reservation, so if you decide to buy 5 day tickets and say for example, your first day is 8/1/23, your tix will be good through 8/8/23 and can be used any 5 days inside that window.

"Your tickets are valid for admission to one theme park each day on any 5 days from Aug 1, 2023 through Aug 8, 2023, subject to park reservation availability. Tickets do not have to be used on consecutive dates."

Where you will run into issues will be lodging and dining reservations. If you have two separate disney reservations, you'll have one as a package w/ tix and one that is resort only and you'll have different dining booking windows and your odds of getting the harder to get reservations will decrease given you'll have two separate booking windows. It's always hard to get the in demand dining ADRs early on in a trip. Read this for more info on dining- https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/index.php/faq/reservation-window/advance-reservations/#:~:text=Guests may make advance reservations,of their check-in date.

Even if dining isn't important to you, for planning purposes and payment, it definitely won't be as streamlined if you had only one reservation but I know that there are a ton of people that do this all the time when they do split stays and can add more advice and tips on the separate bookings. I'm pretty simplistic and if it were me, I'd stick my non disney visits on the front or back end of the trip to avoid having to mess with two separate bookings but I realize sometimes the schedule is dictated for you. Good luck!

ETA- I just tried to book a package online and with such a short stay, you cannot book 5 day tix for anything 3 nights or less so if you go this route and want 5 day tix, you'll have to stay onsite for 4 nights or more to get a package or buy 5 day tix separately and have two separate room only reservations. Which is totally doable but just more moving parts.

Yes, you can use a 5-day ticket on any 5 days within an 8-day window. Tickets do not need to be tied to a resort stay. It sounds like your plans will work, just confirm the use-window covers all your in-park dates when purchasing the ticket.

I appreciate all the detailed responses! Thank you everyone for taking time to explain the pros and cons. Good to know it’s at least a possibility going forward. 😁
