Is it possible for a 6 year to start having her monthly. My little girl has really started to get major acne on her face. Her little legs are starting to get a little more hair on them. Six seems so young to me.

6 seems pretty young, mind you there is a girl in my dd class who is 9 and has hers.

It is possible. If I were you, I would have her at the Pediatrician's immediately to see what was going on.

Thanks everyone. I really hope it's not. She still just a baby way to young for that.

My DD had a classmate at that age who had gotten hers. Her mother had to take her to a specialist. It is possible though.

My sister started at 8 which was AMAZING to anyone who knew back then, especially me since I was 7 :scared1: at the time. I didn't start till I was 12 so my sister had a LOT of experience before me!

my SIL had precocious puberty back in the early 80's...it's no joke.... She has been put on meds and it worked but it stunted her growth (like the growth spurt that you are supposed to get in middle/high school never happened)...So her adult height is 4'10'' ...She is a happy healthy woman in her mid 30's now, but I would see a doctor right away!

Yes she can but that doesn't mean she should. Like others have said, take her to the dr. Also keep in mind that from the onset of 'symptoms" it can take 3 or more years before she actually gets her period.

I started my period right after my 10th birthday, and had been having breast tenderness and needing to shave for 2 years before that. By my 11th birthday, I was completely developed and wearing a full C-cup bra. Not very pleasant for being so young..... I think I definitely had some hormonal issues going on at a very young age. When I was 13, I had a period for 4 months straight. What's crazy now is I've never been able to get pregnant after 8 years of trying and they can't find a reason. I wish I'd been checked out for hormonal issues when I was younger - maybe they could have done something? I'd bring your daughter in if you keep seeing signs of too early development...it certainly wouldn't hurt.

It is possible. I would definitely call the doctor tomorrow and make an appointment to talk about it. It's very important that you do this for her health.

Is she overweight? I think it happens more often to girls who are overweight.

Yes, she is off the chart on weight

Then, seriously, I'd call her doctor tomorrow. They can give medication that will stop it.

Thanks, I will call him.

Just a side note. My daughter is off the chart in weight but she is also off the chart is height. I didn't want anyone to think she extremely chubby

I have read that the 100 pound mark is often the point when girls get their first periods. For some girls that comes much earlier than others.

This sounds like my story. I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrom). I would talk to your doctor about being tested for this, it can cause infertility.

I've also heard that around 100 lbs seems to be the magical number. Being overweight is a major factor in early pubesence I think.

on the flip side, a girl being "overweight" can also cause delayed puberty (or at least menstruation).

a friend from junior high-college was always chubby and she had acne, body hair and the other signs of puberty from a fairly young age, but she still had'nt started her cycle as of her junior year in high school (why her mom had'nt mentioned this to her doctor by then boggles my mind). when the girl finaly spoke up and told the doctor he did testing and while he found no major issues he indicated that she had never gone through a shedding of her "baby fat". he put her on a moderate diet, and once she dropped about 20 pounds her cycle started. once her cycle started it was like her body kick started the rest of puberty, and where (in hindsight) she had a more toddler like body shape (breasts had developed, but she still had a more pronounced stomach, weight carried around her knees, arms, and the full cheeks of a toddler) to begin with, her body started taking on a much more feminine appearance.

it's definatly something to mention to a child's doctor.
