Well...:confused3

my old pastors wife worked for the disney college program and told me that you can transfer to another job at different times.

before i continue with my post, perhaps i should tell you all what i want to do as an intern(top 3 are subject to change)..
1)attractions
2)photopass photographer
3)merch.
4) vacation planner
5) character attendant/character performer
6)bibbidi bobbidi boutique hostess
7) full service food/beverage
8)hospitality
9) main operations
10)quick service

is it possible to transfer from one role to another for the cp? i was told by someone else that once you get a certain role you work there for the WHOLE term...

if so, than i have MAJOR crisis to deal with... haha it took me forever to plan my top 3

The general rule of thumb is that Disney College Program Participants must remain in their role for the entire length of their program.

A Transfer Process does exist as a retention measure in the event of unreconcilable circumstances. However, it is very rarely invoked and should not be depended upon.

Disney College Program Participants who extend into another Program are occassionally offered the opportunity to transfer into another role, based on labour needs.

My 2nd DD was able to transfer from Toy to BBB hostess just b/c they liked her. She continued to pick up shifts at Toy as well as WoD through her program. I was offered a transfer from merch to attractions mid-program just to try out another LOB, not b/c I had any issues. I wound up turning it down after talking to several leaders, including my own area manager (it was a good call, in hindsight). When I applied to extend, I was accepted to FSFB, but declined when I got my management internship instead.

Point being, transferring all depends on all the leaders being on the same page and there being openings/business needs. Sometimes a transfer is b/c the CP is underperforming and sometimes it's b/c the CP is awesome and the leaders want to see where they can go. I would not advise anyone to go into the program with any expectation other than performing their role for the duration, however.

CPs very rarely get to transfer, so you shouldn't apply planning on having that ability. May I ask why this creates a crisis for you?

Beyond the CP - a regular hourly CM must work in a location for 6 months before requesting a transfer (there are of course exceptions, but I'm not going to get into those). Most CPs are not on a program for more than 6 months so that puts them in line with other hourly CMs and the transfer guidelines.

The only other thing you could do is be a Hopper of some sort. If you are a general Hopper, you could work in a variety of the most popular roles (Main Entrance Ops, Attractions, QSFB). If you were a Hospitality Hopper, you would work half of your CP in Housekeeping and the other half in Hospitality.

Otherwise, I agree with everyone else said.

i guess using the word "crisis" was a bad word to use... i just want to work at different locations and different jobs if i get accepted.

thanks for the input.

If you want the chance to work "everywhere"... go into PhotoPass. I did it for two years (while I can grip a lot about it now) as a newbie you won't know the difference.

You'll get icon trained first, then character trained (usually after 30 days). Then you can work at any of the four parks. If you're placed at MK, you can get the opprotunity to be trained for Studio and BBB. Then you can work at DTD location.
If you can get on some of the manager's good sides, and especially warm up to managers that are primarily at the water parks, you can ask to be trained for those locations too.
If you're at DAK, you can get trained at Tusker House, then pick up shifts in the resort dining locations.
Now you will not get trained for the resort portriat sessions. That you have to apply for with a portfollio. I doubt if they'd take CPs into that.

those were the reasons why I chose photopass to begin with. I loved not being "tied" to one park, I could pick up shifts anywhere, and working with the characters is great.
On the other hand, attendants have the laziest jobs. They still get many more breaks than other areas, and they don't have to sweat their butts off. (not putting down the role, I just found it to be really boring) and as a photographer I found myself playing that role as well when I had a worthless one.

attractions, you'll be stuck at that one ride the entire time. And very very few CP's get crossed trained. Like if you work at Thunder, it's highly unlikely you'll get trained for Splash or TSI/Bears even though they're all in frontierland.

With merch, you'll always be scheduled for that location, but you can pick up shifts anywhere being matra trained. You can even pick up shifts with F&B.

the others I don't really have an opinion on.

Actually, that's not true. There are many locations where you are trained for several attractions at the same time (Fantasyland and Tomorrowland come to mind). And it really isn't that hard to be crossed-trained. I know many CPs from the Studios who were crossed-trained at Backlands attractions. It all depends.

The last I heard, they were doing Pirates as a special role. So if you're good enough you can get trained for it. But they're approaching it a bit differently since you have to act the role and since you're dressed in that costume, it's an all day schedule. Even with BBB/Studio, you're in the regular costume and can get rotated in/out.

And I'm not saying you'll be stuck at only one attraction. But whatever rotation of attractions that area has. Like in Ad/lib you can be ATT - Aladdin, tiki, treehouse... but not necessarily Pirates or Jungle.
In frontierland, TSI/Bears is one rotation, Thunder is it's own, Splash is it's own. If you're trained at one, you more than likely won't get trained for the others. Very few CPs have crossed trained like that because you don't generally meet the 6 months rule.

I don't know how it goes in other areas or lands. But attractions just never appealed to me.
