Hey all you AK lovers - I am trying to make my dining reservations for our upcoming trip. I'm having difficutly...I guess something may be going on during the time we are there...a lot of things are booked up. Anyway, my question is, is Boma a must do for dinner, or would breakfast be okay?

The breakfast is great, but I put Boma dinner high on the list of must do's!! Keep trying periodically, something may open up. Try different party-size numbers too - that sometimes helps. If you absolutely can not get an ADR before leaving home, try when you get to AKL. Call the dining # from your room, and also try walking up at Boma. I'd even suggest stopping by the podium during breakfast hours to see if they could seat you that evening.

Good luck! :)

We were there last week and did Boma for dinner one day and for breakfast twice (the second time was mostly out of convenience).

I would say if you can only do one, do dinner. I don't find much special about Boma's breakfast buffet. They do have a couple of items that are unique, but it's pretty much like any other breakfast buffet you'd find anywhere at WDW.

That being said, the breakfast buffet is definitely good. It's $18+ per adult and plenty of options, all fresh. The second day, we opted for Boma over Mara for breakfast. It was about twice the price, but there was more variety.

In my opinion, Boma for dinner is a must-do for everyone. It is in our top 2 favorite restaurants at WDW. California Grill is my other favorite.

Thanks everyone...I snagged a dinner reservation and will skip the breakfast. I can't wait!

Glad you got it!! :thumbsup2

Since you've never been, I would like to make a suggestion. Check out the Pods (food stations) before you get in line. Reason I say that is that the soup and salad pod is in the center -- the first few times we ate there, I was already full from all the other stuff before I got to the soup & salad pod!! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the tip! ;) If you have any other tips to offer about anything at AKL...please pass them along! We'll be there 11/30-12/4 for a short trip, but I am excited to see all the holiday decorations.

We will be there during the same time! Just over 2 months and we are there! How exciting!

I don't know if you have kids or not, but there are plenty of activities for the kids. Check the Activities Board daily. There's one in the lobby, next to Bell Services and also one on Level 1, by the restrooms outside Boma.

When you check-in, you will receive a monthly Activities sheet; Jambo House on one side, Kidani on the other. I have my June sheet here. Some of the activities were:

Culinary Tour: (If this is offered during your stay, do it before you eat at Boma! Then you'll know what's at each Pod - plus they let you sample a soup! ;)) Join a cultural representative on a tour of our award-winning restaurants, Boma & Jiko, and discover the flavors of Africa. Meet at Boma Podium, 4:00pm (some days it's 3:45pm - check the Activities Board that day).

Kids earn beads for these 5:
Flamingo Activity - Interact with animal experts to learn more about the feeding strategies of pelicans and flamingos. Location: Uzima Flamingo Pond, 9:30am.
Animal Tracking - Help track our friend Donald using scientific research equipment. Location: Arusha Rock, 10:30am-12:30pm.
Hidden Habitats - Explore the interactions between the plants and animals that live around the Uzima Springs Pool. Location: Uzima Flamingo Pond, 2:00-4:30pm.
Music of the Savanna - Learn to play an African instrument and play your part in the circle of life. Location: Sunset Lounge, 5:00pm.
Wildlife Games - Test your animal knowledge with our animal experts. Location: Sunset Lounge, 6:30pm.

African Folktales - Take a seat around the Arusha Rock fire pit and enjoy an African folktale. 7:15pm

Primal Parade (this is fun to watch even if you don't have kids!) - Shake, beat, or rattle African instruments as you follow our parade through the lobby. Meet at Zawadi Marketplace, 8:15pm.

They also offer Medallion Rubbing, Cookie Decorating, Face Painting, Games & Crafts, Pin Trading with "King Pin" (in June was Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri at 3:00pm in Zawadi Marketplace.), Ceramics, Make Your Own Beaded Jewelry, Design a T-Shirt are all paid activities.

Most evenings, you can get portraits done in the lobby. (June times were 4:30-8:30pm) No charge to have the portraits taken, prints are available for purchase at the PhotoPass desk.

Take time to talk to the Guides. They have so much information about the animals, their country, their culture; it's so much fun to talk to them. :cloud9:

If you're staying at Jambo (AKL), make sure to leave a little time to visit Kidani. Check out the 2 savannas there. The artwork in the lobby and throughout the hallways is worth checking out too!
