Yes, you can see the animals any time of the year. The cooler months are very nice at AKL with the indoor and outdoor fire places/pits they have, it's so cozy and warm!

Since DH is a teacher and I work part time that is why we can stay so long. But I still haven't told my boss I will be out that long But I have 11 mths to break the news.

Kim its a blessing and a curse. Traffic is horrendous. I am the traffic reporter. Everyone calls me to find out how the traffic is.

A quick story. It wasn't funny at the time but now I can laugh about it. After 9/11 and the Yankees were in the World Series. Mind you I was saw the towers fall. Now at the beginning of the first game, they had the F16s fly over. I was so scared. the windows were shaking and I hit the floor.

7 DAYS TO GO!!! I have already packed. Just have to get some odds and ends together. Hands and feet tomorrow. Hair on Tuesday. Boys get their haircuts on Fri or Sat.

....I feel ya - we saw the buildings fall from our classroom windows....

How scary. I will never forget that day. Even though I was in RI, everytime we have a beautiful September day it reminds me of 9/11. That something so tragic could have happenend on a day like that.

We're back.
It was another lovely stay at the AKL.

They have moved animals around since our last stay, we were in a room just a few doors down and one floor higher than we were a few years ago but this time no giraffes, or, well, one. Last time there were tons but that was before the DVC area was finished and I wonder if they moved some there. No worries though, the viewing area by the pool had plenty

We listened to a cultural safari talk from a girl from Uganda who was rather new to the program. Her room mate told her that we eat all sorts of meats here so "beef" could mean horse meat or dog meat Mean room mate. She was surprised to hear we had a National bird and that while we do have grasshoppers, we do not eat them.

We had camera issues so not too many photos.

Oh and the Sunrise Safari which I think you need to be Club Level to book, it rocks. I'll be booking CL at least a night or two every trip just so we can do it again! We loved the lounge but I actually much prefer the Savannah view from the 3rd floor, so it is a mixed bag.

I don't think the Tag Fairy hangs out anywhere anymore. I haven't heard of anyone getting a new tag in forever!

Hi all - this seems to be the group in the know, so I'm hoping you can help out on a few questions.

1) I've booked a room at AKL through hotels.com. At the time it seemed like a great idea due to the low price. However, I've called Disney multiple times now (including direct to AKL front desk) and no one can see my reservation. I've called hotels.com about it and they say not to worry, they've confirmed it by fax and all is well - something abou the computer system won't show the reservation until 4 days prior to check in.... we will be on a Disney cruise 4 days prior to check in so if something goes wrong I don't know what we'll do!!! Any suggestions?

For the rest of the questions, let's assume the booking is fine and we are in a savannah view bunk bed room

2) We are staying Sep 23-25. Where would the best place to see Giraffes be? (DS5 is a bit obsessed with them) any particular room location I should request?

3) Are we allowed to go over to the samawati pool and playground if we are staying at AKL? Is it best to drive or take the bus?


I know this is a lot so thank you in advance for some help!

I am going for my first AKL stay, but, regarding hotels.com i have used them twice before-once for key West and once for Universal -either Royal Pacific or Portofino(forget which time) and I both times tried to give requests. The Key West hotel was able to see my request and attatch my room requests. but Universal one, the hotel couldnt seemy request til day before we arrived. I dont know why that is- kinda scary. But, it was Royal Pacific, I remember now cuz thats when we came off a Disney Cruise.... I was crapping my pants I was so nervous. As soon as we got to port called and gave them my request .
As far as the pools, Im pretty sure that you can use all the pools on AKL property even if you are not DVC

Your response reminded me of a great Sanaa story that RachelTori has...

I loved Sanaa...great spot...great viewing....however, there werent many items on the menu (for me) that I was crazy about! Maybe it was the bar that I preferred....

What did you eat there - Mark really really wants to eat at Sanaa, but nothing appeals to me. I guess the drinks could fill me up.
