Is it ok to wear a coverup for lunch?

I plan on wearing a bathing suit mostly on those nice sea days but I realize that you can't wear one in the restaurants for breakfast and lunch. Would a nice coverup (looks like a dress) with sandles be ok or do I need to run back to my cabin to change? Should I just bring shorts and a top to put on over my bathing suit? What about other areas of the ship? This may make a big difference in how many short outfits I pack. Thanks! Of course I plan on dressing up for dinner!

I believe you need to be dressed for the restaurants. However, if youre eating at Topsiders a cover-up is fine.

We haven't cruised yet, but I'm curious... If the coverup looks like a dress, who's to know there's a suit underneath? Not that I want to "get away" with something, but honestly, if it's a suit or underwear, a dress is still dressier than shorts. Provided, of course, it really does look like a dress and the bathing suit isn't hanging out of it. Are breakfast and lunch really that dressy?

For the sit down resturants I believe they would like resort casual for both breakfast and lunch. That doesn't mean dressy. It just means basics. T-shirts, shorts, sundresses, etc. are all fine. Shoes are necessary. If the coverup does indeed look like a sun dress I think it would be fine in either Topsiders/Beach Blanket or down in the resturants. If it is just a gauze cover up where you can see the suit underneath I would suggest changing or just eating on deck 9. Hope that helps.

For Topsiders a coverup over a bathing suit is fine. For the other restaurants it's really not.

A previous poster says "how could they tell". Well, you can. Coverups, even the longer ones, look like coverups. Even the longer ones are shorter than most people would wear a dress, and you can usually see bathing suit straps under them. I've never seen any coverup that didn't look like a coverup.

If you don't want to dress up, Topsiders serves a great lunch, we never ate lunch in the restaurants on the entire cruise, always did Topsiders, Pluto's, or room service! :)

I have never seen a coverup in any of the restaurants and I think you might feel a bit conspicuous there with it on.

Topsiders would probably be more to your liking if you decided to wear that.

Topsiders is very close to the pool areas too, so it is nice for those who want to spend a lot of time at the pool. We usually get a table in the shade near the Mickey Pool and eat while our kids swim. We love Topsiders. You would be fine there with a cover up. The other places you may want to reconsider (although if it looks like a 'dress' you would be fine I think, how would they know the difference between that and a sundress?).

Is the food at the restaurants worth changing clothes for over going to eat lunch at Topsiders?

They serve the same things! The only difference is cafeteria style v. full service.

Anne,
Thanks! That makes up my mind! You just saved my luggage from being overcrowded! This is vacation! I want it to be as relaxing as possible! I will save the primping for dinner time!

I have a couple of Dresses that are in the Cover up section of the latest Lands End catalog. It is a cotton, T-shirt type of fabric, with a v-neck and sleeveless. I plan on wearing it a lot as a dress and coverup. You could add a cardigan and have a nice resort casual outfit. I think they are $18. Also great to sleep in! Sure wish I had 7 of them! wouldn't need to pack much else :)
