Is it ok to dislike your parents?

The reason my cousin still lives at home is because she is a diabetic and in the past too much stress has caused her problems.

Extreme instances of stress can cause her body to block the insulin she injects. My brother (type 1) was in the hospital twice last year for keytoacidosis after his sugar skyrocketed from extreme stress. He was taking his shots and following his diet, but his body produced an insulin blocker and he was super sick.

BTW, she's needs to move out. Find a roommate or find a studio apartment, she'll be better off out of the stressful environment.

I have a cousin who is 20 and recently finished her second year of college and is hoping to become a respiratory therapist. She lives at home with her parents but doesn't get along well with my aunt and uncle. My aunt has mistreated her and her other kids for years. She is the type of person who has always to have everything exactly her way. A few years back when I was visiting them my aunt dragged my cousin to the dishwasher and screamed at her because she didn't put the bowls a certain way. There have been other times I have seen my aunt cut my cousin down for no good reason. The reason my cousin still lives at home is because she is a diabetic and in the past too much stress has caused her problems. But living at home is toxic. My cousin has told me several times in the past she dislikes her mom and really doesn't love her. My cousin is moving out in a week to live with her boyfriend. Her mom doesn't like that and is cutting my cousin down about it. Does anyone think it is ok for my cousin to dislike her mom?
Sometimes it's a whole lot easier to like someone when you don't live with them.

What concerns me just as much is that she seems to be moving in with the boyfriend to get away from mom. Especially for a girl who's been somewhat beaten down all her life, it's important that she get out ON HER OWN and learn that she can stand on her own two feet. Otherwise, she can easily end up in the same situation /different people.

I was just listening to a song entitled, "I don't like half the folks I love," which I think sums up my family relationships nicely. We don't get to pick our relatives.

It's fine for your cousin to dislike her mother. However, she should treat her respectfully as long as she is living on mom's dime.

She does treat her mom respectfully and my cousin doesn't live entirely on the mom's dime. My cousin works and she also pays half of the bills and get groceries for them a couple of times a month.
