Is It Ok to Bring A Laptop Computer to A Park??

I was Thinking Of more Like a Play-by-Play Sort of thing. I have Friends at Home Who Wont Be there And they are all Disney Obsessed like me . They Want to Know EVERY detail too :thumbsup2

At 47 I know I'm old. I just don't see the reason for it. Everybody does it and they are so caught up in twittering that they actually miss out on the experience. If I want, I can do a trip report at the end of the day or if I go back to the resort during the day. I'm just not likely to do it. My time at WDW is all about me and DH. I soak it up and can send a report with pictures later. I say enjoy your time there.

Really? You're wanting to lug a several hundred dollar piece of equipment around so you can tell people what you're doing?

If you insist on that type of thing, I'd pick up one of those phone's walmart is advertising for $30 a month, no contract, 1000 minutes/1000 texts...and 30 some mb data included...would be much safer and a lot less weight.

I would worry about it getting wet/banged around on Splash, Space and BigThunder Mountains plus it's going to add weight to your bag, which seems to multiply over the day, but from a WDW security standpoint there shouldn't be a problem.

Exactly :thumbsup2 We always try to travel as light as possible, and leave a lot of our things in the lockers. But I wouldn't want to leave a laptop in a locker.

I go on vacation to escape and personally don't even like to carry a cell phone. Good luck carting that thing around all day.

And you're going to hold a laptop and type on it while you're standing in line for a ride? Or to buy food? Or walking from place to place in the park?

Seriously....get an iPhone. :)

There's enough of that going on at home, no need to continue on a vacation. It's nice to go to WDW, no driving, computers, cell calls, just leaving the rat race for a week. We take our cells with us but they stay in the room, we're on vacation and everyone can see our pictures when we return.

I agree 100%! I am 34 years old and I am very into gadgets & technology. But there is so much to see and do at WDW that I think its crazy to lug around a laptop just to twitter, but to each his own. I have been to disney more times than I can count and I still find things I never noticed before.

Do you have texting on your cell phone? You can text your tweets (or facebook status updates), using standard text messaging.

Seems a bit bulky and cumbersome. But I don't think you would have a problem bringing it in.
Myself if I am in the park, I could care less about telling others what I am doing. I am there to enjoy the park. I would not even consider texting from my cell let alone have a computer with me. I can give details if I want when I get back to the room. Which is where my laptop will be.

For what reason do you need to twitter while on vacation? Are you a celebrity or something that people would feel the need to follow your every move at a theme park?

By that argument, for what reason would anyone need twitter EVER? I'd much rather see tweets on people's vacation experiences than everyday life. Ugh.

Trip report? Aren't tweets limited to a certain amount of text?

with a cell phone and some of the newer small lightweight cameras available, why don't you just hook it up and have streaming video of the whole trip?

I brought my smartphone on my trip. It has 3g and wi-fi so I was able to Twitter from the parks, update my Facebook, send emails etc. Used it mainly while waiting in lines(usually for TSM).

Ok I'm feeling very old, why not just enjoy your time in the parks. Tell people about it afterwards. Sometimes I think we are all so busy trying to show people we are having a good time that we actually miss out on the fun.

i don't understand the appeal to tweeting.

i am a facebook geek, but i only update my status once a day, and i use it for work.

the whole.. "i'm picking my nose", "i'm at the gas station", "about to have lays potato chips", "etc etc etc".. i don't get it.
Normally at home, I don't Tweet much at all. I go days without putting one up. But, it was fun at the parks/resort to talk about the cool ride I just did, to comment on the new restaurant we just tried etc. There's a whole group that just tweets about WDW. I had some people following my tweets while I was there.

I think it's a good thing to move with the times. I always said that I never want to be like some of the people I work with-some of these older nurses, you show them a new piece of technology and they freak. I taught both of my parents about computers and such, and I'm proud that they have caught on quickly.:thumbsup2

I'm sure you can bring it in, but as others have ntoed, I'd be worried about it getting banged up, lost, stolen....and I sure as heck wouldn't want to carry it around. I'd look into using my cell phone--much smaller & lighter than carrying a laptop around.

I can see wanting to tweet during vacation. I like to do it to rub it in to my family and friends at home. :lmao:

I wouldn't lug around a laptop though. I would invest in an Iphone if you can.

just an fyi you can text your twitter tweets you don't have to be on the web to do it.

i only use email to send pics to twitter otherwise when i'm out i text message them

Also, if you're not interested in an iPhone, there are other phones out there that can do the same thing. I took a Mytouch phone last trip and it has internet and all the bells and whistles. I don't hate the iPhone, but I hate AT&T. Tmobile has been good to me so I saw no need to leave my carrier. I know you can get an iPhone unlocked, but you don't have full access to all the benefits of the phone if you do that.

that's what i was going to say. just text your tweets. I don't use Twitter, but I do use FB and I just have a regular texting phone...not even a full keyboard, no internet. I totally understand tweeting while you're there...like there's a lot of line time with nothing to do (we bring stuff to keep the kids happy, why not for us?), but those occasions when you will have the time to tweet, it's not going to be convenient to be holding your laptop and type at the same time, KWIM?
