The "normal" body temp of 98.6F is an average normal temperature. Some people's normal temperature are higher, some are lower. My Mom's normal resting temp is 97. Perhaps your six yo has a below average normal temp.

It usually does run on the lower side. I think last time I took it (besides his bout with Scarlet Fever) it was 97.something. Mine is always low, but then I have thyroid problems. He is chubby even though he's extremely active and it made me wonder if maybe he has something going on with his thyroid, too.

Oh, I will. The temperature thing came up today when they took it at school and I thought I'd ask on here to see what people thought.

I think some people just have low body temperatures. For me honestly, the average 98.6 is like having a fever. I'm never that high.

Same here...my normal temp is below 98.6. When I was a kid if my temp was at 98.6, Mom had to keep my home, because I was definetly running a fever.

My body temp ranges from 96-97, but I do have thyroid and other endocrine problems, so I don't know if I'm skewing the data...

My normal is in the 96 range too always have been. I almost never run what woudl be defined as a true fever since most of the time simply being as high as average is high for me.
