When a friend / family member keeps referring to WDW as Disney LAND?!?!?!

Get your worlds and lands straight people!

I think one particular family member knows it gets to me too (maybe I twitch or something?) and keeps calling WDW Disney LAND.

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There...I feel better now :)

Yes, it's normal. However, I also think it's normal for people who really don't care about Disney to say Disneyland because that is the original park and the one most people grew up referring to. Most don't know they have 2 different names.

I get annoyed when people refer to WDW as the "happiest place on earth" because I reserve this for DL and feel compelled to correct them lol...but then again I'm a so cal resident. We all have our pet peeves about our beloved disney universe that not everyone completely understands ;)

It bugs me a little bit since I live in Florida and people here still mix them up. More people around here call Magic Kingdom "Disney World" and then look at you like your crazy when you try explaining that it's not the 80s anymore and Disney World is bigger then that. (My grandmother does that ALL the time.)

What really drives me crazy is when people say WDW is the "happiest place on Earth". Um, no, that's DL. WDW is the "most magical place on Earth". Not sure why that bugs me so much, it's all Disney :wizard:

That's the one that bugs me. A colleague just returned from a weekend trip and told me, "We went to Disney the first day and Animal Kingdom the second day." I wanted to remind her that she was in Disney World both days but held my tongue.

Then again...I was just thinking that the Hecks didn't exactly add to our cause either in their Season Finale ;)

Before my honeymoon to Disney world, I had no idea which I was going to. I knew they were called world and land, but I didn't know which was in Florida. Oh and I lived in Florida at the time! So I would say I was going to disneylandworld while admitting I knew they were different but that I was going to whichever was in Florida.

On that honeymoon, we got Florida resident passes and went back a number of times and have been on multiple trips since moving out of Florida. My husband still calls magic kingdom "Disney" or "Disney world". But mostly "Disney".

I just go with it since he puts up with my obsession! He knows the difference, but to him, MK is "Disney" so I must move on. Hey he's the one who picked the honeymoon spot that started my obsession!

In spite of all the years we've been going to Disney World and talking about it and sharing pictures with family and friends, those who haven't been there really are clueless.
They use Disney World and Disneyland interchangeably. And they often think that when I'm talking about Magic Kingdom that it's Disney World. If they haven't been there, they mostly only know what they see on TV commercials or hear from their grandkids or kids who have gone.
They really don't know all about Animal Kingdom, Epcot, etc. And it kind of gripes me that some of the ones who go with their children and/or grandchildren come back saying they wished they'd had time for Epcot but the kids like the princesses and/or Magic Kingdom and they just didn't get there. Again.
I've given up. If they ask questions, I give them complete answers. And I ALWAYS include pictures from each of the parks when I send an e-mail about our trips, including where they were taken and so on. It doesn't help.
:confused3

My sister is now a FL Resident, moved from NJ 3 years ago, has FL Res AP's and still calls "Magic Kingdom" "Disney World. I have to correct her all the time.

My poor boyfriend hasn't been to Disney... so he doesnt understand how BIG it really is!

He thinks Hollywood Studios is Universal... LOL...:rotfl::rotfl:

Glad I get to show him WDW in September... I keep reminding him that we'll visit Universal in a few years (after the newest Harry craze settles a bit)

I have found my kindred spirits in this thread! I actually get annoyed with myself with how annoyed I get at others when they call Walt Disney World "Disneyland". I get annoyed at "Disney World" when they are referring to just Magic Kingdom. For example, when they say that they are going to "Disney World, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom". To me,that's like saying, "I'm going to go to England, Liverpool, and Manchester." And, (and I know that this is probably the most ridiculous of all complaints) I don't like it when people write "Disneyworld". It's two words. Disneyland is one word, but Disney World, or, more appropriately, Walt Disney World are separate words.

Confession is good for the soul, so here goes:

Sometimes, I purposely say Disneyland when referring to WDW in order to flesh out people who know the difference. If someone corrects me, there's a good chance I can open up and talk in detail about Disney with that person without being branded a "Disney geek." :rotfl2:

I love this - amazing idea! :D

I think what really bothers me even more is the occasional follow-up after I've corrected them - "Is there even a difference?" - then I really unload into them. I then also make a note in my mind to remind me I can't be friends with them at that current state.
