For the first race, absolutely! The Princess last year was my first race and I felt great initially but after a few hours, I started to feel that way. Just stay hydrated, keep moving and follow the RICE method if you have anything that is really hurting. You will be back to 100% before you know it! Congratulations on your achievement!!
Ah, I remember that feeling! Seems like yesterday.......I remember feeling like I would throw up every time I moved!! It gets better each race you do.....
Keep moving! One of the best things you can do for your legs after a race is to go for a walk. Nothing too long or too strenuous, but light exercise does help them start to recover and feel better. A good sports massage helps tremendously too.
Move move move. Unless the pain is localized and acute - then go see a doctor right away. It'll hurt, my biggest thing after a marathon or something is the transitions between sitting and standing and walking.
You know when my muscles are sore, a warm epsom salt bath really can help relax things and give me relief without taking Advil...been trying to cut back. Of course I am no doctor and am convinced I am not sore today because we went to Epcot at 1:30 yesterday then to Magic Kingdom, left after the fireworks. All that walking the parks must have been what I needed.....though man I was SLOW.

I felt awful after the first one. Had a dinner meet scheduled that I just didn't make. And actually, it was more than just the race. Used to be, once I got to the 8 - 12 mile long run range during training, I'd have to nap afterward to recover.
yesterday was #17...did MK lightly afterward. I did take a nap in the car on the way home, but that was more about being up at 2:30 than the race. Today, just a little soreness in the quads and my bad ankle is holding up well.
The more you do this, the less poopy you feel afterward
I went in to work today even though I was soooo sore. If a fire alarm had come on, I would have been in trouble! Slow moving and especially after sitting for a bit. This was my first and I figured I would be sore but this is more intense than I thought.
Even in my most painful moments today, I was still euphoric about finishing the race!!
I always soak in a cold bath for 10 minutes as as soon as I can post race or long run. Lay down and rest for no more than 90 minutes, then a warm soak in Epsom salts and I get moving (walking) again. After my full in January, I was only a little sore going down stairs or steps for the first day and half. By 48 hours after, I was completely back to myself
