Is it me or is the Dis VERY slow to access?

For a while now, it has been taking so long to get to any of the message boards. I have a high speed modem, but it still takes so long to load to my favorite boards, like Resorts and Budget, that I haven't been coming to the Dis much lately because of the frustration factor. I don't have a problem with any other site but the Dis.

Is this happening to anyone else?

yes, even on DSL it is slow. I also about half the time get the can not connect screen. Oh well, I just refreash and it usually solves the problem.

It's slow on my cable modem, too. And it's not the modem, because all my other message boards are still super fast loading.

The switch to the new, more powerful, faster servers has not yet taken place. I know that Alex posted something about the DIS having the most traffic ever in one day sometime in the past couple of weeks. It appears that the DIS is more popular than ever. The new servers could not come at a more opportune time.

Yep the pages are really dragging and I keep plugging away and trying to get all my DIS reading done. Hopefully the new servers will speed things up.

I was starting to think it was my computer being annoying! What really drives me nuts (check out the tag!! ) is when you type up a reply to a post and click sumbit....then you sit waiting and waiting...til a "page can not be found" screen appears! Then, when you are finally able to get back into the boards, your reply ISN'T there!!

It has been very slow for me also(cable modem-RoadRunner) the last few days....and all other websites I go to are very fast.

Nope, not just you. We have DSL and I am having problems accessing DIS and posting is especially slow.

depending on what time of day I try..early morning and afternoons are awful..evenings it usually works fine..hoping they get the kinks out of the new upgrades soon!

I have a T1 and it is still EXTREMELY slow!! That is why I haven't been posting much. Can't wait for the new servers!!!

In all honesty I dont believe that it is the servers.
Getting TO the boards is fairly quick ...Then getting the the actual sections are what is slowing us all down.

My belief is this is caused by all of the messages that have their home here in the forums. So it is taking quite a bit to access the forum cause the forum CONTENTS need to be retrieved before you are actually taken to the forum itsself.

I may be wrong but it could also by the MYSQL if this forum is utilizing that also. Could be too cluttered or corrupt.

I am so glad this came up. I thought it was my computer. I almost posted this a few days ago, but didn't want to sound dumb. Guess I wouldn't have, huh?

It is the servers. If you notice it's at it's worse around noon time which is the busiest time on the boards. They simply don't have the power to keep up with the number of users.
Verio is telling us they have a backlog of servers being built but we should get them in the next week or so.
