Is it me, or is MGM really lame?

The studios was designed and always has been a show driven park. It's only a half day park if you just want to do attractions. If you took the time and enjoyed all the shows and streetmosphere as well as parades and character meet and greets it will easily take you all day.

Personally, I agree with the OP. I think what determines how much time I spend at MGM is the age of the people with me. For little kids, the shows... Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney, Beauty and the Beast, the Muppet Movie, the Parades and Fantasmic... can keep us there a while. But when the people I am with are more grown up, it is just ToT and RR.
But... on the other hand... What keeps me from ever being able to skip MGM all together is the Villan store and the restaurants. The Primetime Cafe, and the Sci Fi Drive In are so much fun, and Momma Melrose... the food at MGM restaurants is so good, and so much less expensive than the EPCOT WS restaurants. With the park hoppers, we go just for dinner some days.

Last year was my first time at Disney/MGM Studios, and I agree that I was fairly underwhelmed. I was at Universal Studios back in high school ('92), and I was fully expecting MGM to be as good, if not better. To me, it just seemed like Universal Studios did the whole "movie park" thing a lot better. Now granted, that was 14 years ago and I might be remembering US more fondly than I should, but after about 3 hours at MGM we were ready to leave. RnRC was broken my entire time in that park, and I really do not get the hype over Star Tours. I was extremely bored by that ride. We did see Beauty and the Beast, which my DW enjoyed immensely. I liked the Movie Ride, and the Muppet thing was great. But if it wasn't for the fact that I didn't get to ride RnRC last time, we probably wouldn't be going back to this park at all next year. But, to each their own I guess.

I don't care for MGM either, we always skip it. There's not much that interests me there. I'd rather spend my time at the other parks. :)

MGM is one of my favorites. I love the GMR, MuppetVision and Star Tours. I also like the atmosphere of old Hollywood and movie making (unlike Universal, which has turned into a thrills park, IMHO).

Some things that they could do to improve MGM:

1. More rides/shows. (Unless you like to ride eveything there, this is a 1/2 day park, especially in the off season)
2. More character meals.
3. Bring back the Pooh store :)

Here is the thing. Character meals have been tried before and they fail. the only resteraunt in MGM that can handle characters is Hollywood and Vine. Other then that the other places are to small or too cramped for characters to work with. I'm still impressed they got goliath in there with his tail.

Love MGM. Love the atmosphere, love the shows, especially love the street performers. We spent a day and a half there this trip. Fantasmic is out of this world. I did have a Cast Member tell me that Indiana Jones might be updated soon. That's the only show I don't go see. The parade is great too!

To me, they need to turn the Star Wars franchise into a real E-ticket type of attraction, not just some simulator that you could find in a mall showing a movie that looks like it was shot in the 70's. It really could use an update. I do like the park, but it's hard to keep my son entertained there. He's too old for the playhouse Disney stuff, but a little nervous still for ToT and RnR. Shows are fine, but nothing we need to repeat all the time. Hopefully the Midway Madness will have a high "fun" factor even if it's not a huge budget attraction, and will be something you want to repeat.

Thats my DH's biggest complaint. He loves Star Wars and wishes they would play it up more at MGM. And a permanant show. And rehab the Star Tours which we no longer ride cause it beats the crap out of you IMHO.

Personnaly, we enjoy the shows, parades and characters just as much as we enjoy the rides so for me MGM rocks! Love the day parade, totally LOVE Fantasmic! the Stunt show, Indiana Jones, beauty and the Beast etc. and of course The Tower and Rock N'. So we do spend quite a bit of time at MGM for the above mentionned resaons : ) We LOVE it. :thumbsup2

MGM is our least favorite park. After TOT and RNR we are ready to leave.

My family of 4 all agree with it being our least favorite park. ToT and RnRC were our favorite attractions there too. That's what is great about park hoppers.

It's my least favorite of the 4 parks, but I don't think it's lame by any means.

I just don't think it has quite the repeatability factor that others have. More than the other parks, if you've been there more than a few times you can really just blow through it. But for most of those who've never been there, or only once, it's still cool as heck.

MGM is my (and the rest of the family) favorite park. We easily spend at least 2 days there. It has everything! On the other hand we are in and out of MK in half a day. MK does absolutely nothing for us. Different horses for different courses I suppose.

MGM is definitely NOT my favorite park, either. Out of the four, it's my fourth favorite. LOL!

I'm not a sissy, but I HATE falling, so I will never step foot on TOT. I did RnRC for the first time this past trip (my third WDW trip) and it was petrifying! DH spent the $16.95 on the picture, in which you cannot see anything of my face since I put my hands in front of my eyes and was screaming at the time, because this will be his ONLY chance to have a pic of all three of us on the ride together. LOL! It's pretty sad when your 7-YO daughter has to keep saying "It'll be okay, Momma" over and over and over. LOL!

As for what I LIKE about MGM, I like Muppetvision. I liked WWTBAM. I like eating at the ABC Commissary. I like the pin shop under the hat. I'm not a fan of Fantasmic, though. Actually, I don't like any of the parks' night "shows" other than the MK one.

yes. it is just you...we love mgm. perhaps we are different; but, we find it easy to fill a full day there.
same here.. we love mgm.. so maybe it's just you.

This may be blasphamy, but I would pick Universal Studios over MGM. Universal basically has a better version of MGM and an amusement park (islands of Adventure). I love ToT and that is about it. Well the only good thing is that three people in my family have been picked to be in something at MGM. I think that "It Sounds Dangerous" should be called "It Sounds Stupid" Oh and I love the Rock and Roller Coaster. So probably three things I like there. My son and DH like the Muppets.

My family loved MGM. We only spent one full day there, and my nine year old went back to EMH with his Dad for some bonus MGM. I wish we would of had more time. We loved the theming, the shows, the rides. We all didn't plan on loving it, had low expectations, but fell in love with MGM.

MGM is our least favorite park too. Although, i have decided that the BaB show and the VotLM are better than I had imagined before I went to either one. I think VotLM is really quite well done. I also like Star Tours, TGMR, and the new motor car stunt show is pretty cool - especially the first time you see it.

I LOVE the Muppets themselves, but Ireally wish they'd redo that show already. ot do away withthe Muppets, just revamp the show and get rid of that obnoxious little character. I don't recall his name, but he isn't part of the otriginal cast anyhow. I don't know why they put him in there in the first place. They could have a great show, without the formula of 'somthing gone wrong' that's been used in every other 3-D show at WDW (HISTA, TTBAB, Philarmagic, etc.) They could keep the set the sme and everything...Just get someone cool to be a guest singer.

But I do think that park needs major work, especially since they've gutted the heart of it (Backlot, animation studio)!

I hear this a lot working at the park. I think in order to enjoy MGM, you have to realize its not a 'ride' park. There's only a few rides, and if you don't like thrill rides, you're out of luck.

Explore the shows, talk to the streetmosphere people, check out the lesser visited attraction. Magic of Disney animation is hilarious. Walt Disney One Man's Dream is great for fans of Walt. Sounds Dangerous is a unique experience.

There's a lot of stuff to see and do in there. It is what you make of it.
