Is it me, or is MGM really lame?

We LOVE MGM !! The atmosphere in itself is fantastic..we love all the street shows...they entertain us for hours....when the park first opens and the soldiers from toy story come out in their vehicle and greet everyone that is awesome..my kids get a big kick out of that..the shows there muppet vision 3D..the little mermaid...star tours..we love em all !!! the rockin rollercoaster ..tower of terror ...great park ...

DH, DD and I can certainly live without MGM. After our son rides R&R and sees the stunt show, we're outta there. And MGM has the worst food of all the parks, too!

Not our favorite park, but we would never miss it. We usually spend 3/4 of a day here. Saw Fantasmic for the first time in September - definitely worth seeing. RnR, ToT, Muppets have been mentioned by many. I'm not usually interested in musicals, but I like Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid shows. The Magic of Disney Animation is fun to draw a character in 10 minutes and take it home at no cost (unlike DQ).

MGM is also a good place to meet a lot of characters throughout the day. 50's PTC and SciFi are fun places to eat. So all in all there is a lot going for MGM IMHO.

With all due respect, maybe it's just me but I don't get anyone not liking a Disney park. They are all great and there is so much to do all each of them.
We love MGM and could actually spend more than a day there. Are some of you missing the magic?

Not every park, every ride, every show is for every person. That doesn't mean your missing the magic. :thumbsup2

MGM has RNRC and ToT, plus the Sci-Fi Dine in Theater....other than that, no never spend much more time there. It does seem to be a lot less of a studio than Universal which has twice as many high quality attractions in one park.

We are just back from a week at Disney. Although the resort was an issue, (see other board) we had a great time at the parks. I must say that out of all 4 parks and both water parks, MGM was not really impressive at all. It just seems like there is nothing really there anymore. Don't get me wrong I like Indiana Jones, Star Tours and The Great Movie Ride, but they seem outdated. Next time we visit the World, my husband said he will go (not me, I am all set) during EMH and ride RnR and ToT and we will skip the rest and spend the day at one of the other parks. How do the rest of you feel?

The park is great if you are into shows more than rides. They have TOT, RNR, and Star Tours and of course Fantasmic but other than that if you aren't interested in shows I wouldn't suggest it as it's a Show Business park.

Studios is my favorite of the four parks. Between Beauty and the Beast, Star Tours, Fantasmic!, Indy, LMA, GMR, the Backlot Tour, MuppetVision 3D, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, One Man's Dream, multiple rides on ToT and RnR, and a good lunch at the Hollywood Brown Derby I can't fit a break in.

I will miss Millionaire and wish that the Animation Tour was as strong as it used to be.

I think the park could be made stronger, but it still remains my favorite. I could spend days there - I have!

To each their own, but we love MGM, in addition to all the favorite rides already mentioned by you and other posters, there is the atmosphere of all the great movies and street players, shows, and tours. We enjoy going to see the many exhibits MGM has to offer. We can get envolved enough to spend a full day.

I know it can be annoying, but they do it for a reason. It helps keep the crowds at the shows more managable by spreading guests throughout more performances.

NED

I completely understand this during peak seasons, but last week the theater for the 1:00 (or sometime around there) Beauty and the Beast show was not even half full. Other than Little Mermaid, every show appeared to be a walk-in due to the large theaters and small crowds. During these seasons, scheduling for "ease of touring" would not have been difficult.

At Epcot, all the performances in World Showcase were timed so that you could start on one side of the Lagoon and watch a performance, walk to the next country and have about 5 minutes until the next performance. My kids actually liked World Showcase this time because they didn't have to sit around and wait for the next show. It was great.

We agree, we love MGM, we think it's great  ! Then we do like the classic feel and we too spend the whole day there (open to close).

Its you!

MGM is one of our most favorite parks. ToT and RR are must see/do rides. We all enjoy the shows. Fantasmic is fantasmic. Tarzan does rock! Beauty and the Beast is lovely. My children flip for the Extreme Stunt Show. And the Osborn Family Spectacle of Lights will always brighten your day.

We go each year after Thanksgiving and the decorations really add to the atmosphere. I suggest you try it again that time if you can.

Tarzan Rocks was AK and is now gone...

IMO MGM is a great park with a lot of potential. I still love RnR even if it's 8 years old....look how old the MK Mountains are and the wait times can still be ridiculous for those!!!

Shows are a part of what MGM is about! I can understand not adding new shows, but don't take away whats already there. I think the company is focused right now on AK and getting it up to par with other parks. When AK opened it was barely a half day park...while AK may not be a full day park it's better than it once was.

I think the problem lies within families with small children. MGM is more of an adult park. There is so much to see and explore at MGM that families with small children who don't have the attention span, miss. Take your time and do everything at MGM and I guarantee you will spend an entire day there!!

We love MGM but I agree it not a full day park. We go early and come back at night to see fantasmic and ride what we can.

I really feel MGM is very ride attraction poor. A few too many shows and just not enough rides. If you have seen all the shows before it does make MGM a half-day park.

There is really a lot of potential for the park; especially since Disney bought Pixar. However, they keep putting the Pixar attractions in Tomorrowland at the MK. I can't quite seem to figure that out.

It's our family's favorite park... but maybe it's because we're big movie and theater buffs.

I would have to disagree with you. I love everything about MGM and have since the day it opened. It has a great atmosphere. Some of my favorite attractions are located in that park...RRC, ToT, GMR, Muppet, Fantasmic. Yes, somethings are dated like Star Tours, and I would like for Disney to utilize some of the space better. That being said, I think MGM is a great park.

The Midway Madness ride that's replacing Millionaire should be a nice addition to the park, and from the sounds of it, it'll have a repeatability factor that is lacking in the GMR and Star Tours. From the sounds of it, it's not what I'd call an E-ticket though, it'll be more on par with Pooh or Buzz Lightyear in size and scope.

Disney really needs to drop $100M on something BIG. Look at DL and the new Nemo-themed submarine adventure that's taking over the old 20,000 leagues spot, that's a big ticket, high-dollar attraction, but it's also kid-friendly, Disney at its best.

We love  MGM!! From the old Holywood atmosphere and awsome street performers to ToT and RnR to Fantasmic, we always have a great time here!! The only thing that I sometimes find lacking is counterservice food. The commisary isn't great, and last time we were there, it was closed because of a power outage. Backlot express has some good stuff now, so that is an improvement if you tire of Pizza Planet. Other than that, we always have ball, but then again, any day at Disney is a good day for us! If it wasn't we wouldn't spend the $$ to go back every year.

MGM is my least favorite park. It just doesn't have the magic that the other parks have IMO. Weirdly enough, MGM does hold my favorite ride, RnRC. I don't dislike the park but there are a limited amount of rides that I enjoy. I am really bored with most of them.

I guess a lot has to do with the age of your children. Our kids are at the age now that the Magic Kingdom is "lame." We spend 2 hours at the MK riding Splash and the Haunted Mansion, and then leave for a more fun park, like MGM. "Lame" is the Swiss Family treehouse and the Jungle Cruise.

Like with every Disney park, there are so many hidden "gems" at MGM, that you have to take your time to experience them. Truly, there is no better show in WDW than Beauty and the Beast. And, Fantasmic has to be the most awe-inspiring nighttime festival in the world! A quick beer and a snack of "Smores" at the 50's Prime Time is the best way there is to cool off on a hot afternoon. The animation tour is awesome (though, not as good as it was when it was an actual working facility). Muppets 3-D is a "can't miss" show. The Extreme Stunt Show blows you away! And, the atmosphere in front of the Sorcerer's Hat is enchanting when they play those great Disney tunes while the characters interact with the children. Truly, a magical place.

I could go on and on. MGM is our second favorite park (after the Animal Kingdom). We could spend a week at WDW and skip the MK entirely! So, I guess it is all in your perspective. If you get a chance to try MGM again, look for some of the special "out of the way" places and things to do.
