Is it me, or is MGM really lame?

We are just back from a week at Disney. Although the resort was an issue, (see other board) we had a great time at the parks. I must say that out of all 4 parks and both water parks, MGM was not really impressive at all. It just seems like there is nothing really there anymore. Don't get me wrong I like Indiana Jones, Star Tours and The Great Movie Ride, but they seem outdated. Next time we visit the World, my husband said he will go (not me, I am all set) during EMH and ride RnR and ToT and we will skip the rest and spend the day at one of the other parks. How do the rest of you feel?

RnR is one of my favorite Disney attractions. Other then that, I have no reason to return to this park.

I like MGM but it certainly doesn't have to be a full day at the park. I agree that they could do sooo much more with it. They have a great idea now they just have to really try to work harder with it. I love RnR ToT and MuppetVision, but other than that, there aren't really any MUST SEE attractions. I mean, we usually go for enuf time to spend a full day in each park, so we do and just take our time and take breaks at MGM but, you really could get in and out of there pretty quickly if you wanted to.
I think it could use a major renovation.

Each to their own, I guess. I really like MGM - love the atmosphere. I will really miss WWTBAM as it was my favorite, and I do think they should add some additional things, but I really enjoy everything that is there - a trip isn't complete without the Muppets, Fantasmic, TOT and Indiana Jones (we always try to spot the ringer before he is picked).

IMO not lame, just different. It certainly is a half-day park. On our upcoming trip we plan to arrive there after lunch, do RNRC and ToT, see the 3PM parade (DS6 loves it), see LMX, and maybe stick around for Fantasmic. That's about it. If it works in the schedule mayeb we'll take in GMR, IJA, and Muppets 3-D. This will be our "down day" after MNSSHP the night before.

I agree. My daughter loves RnR and that basically is the only reason that we go to MGM. Roller coasters are not for me so after RnR we just walk around the park. It seems like the brass @ WDW would realize that many more dollars would flow if the park was meant to attract all ages. Besides the shows, there's nothing for the little ones.Hopefully the corp will come up with something exciting for everybody.

I like MGM very much, but I'm actually kinda bummed - I'm going to WDW with my children's marching band the week after Christmas, and the band director decided to spend NYE at MGM. Now, the last time we were at Epcot, and I understand why he didn't want to go back (LOTS of incidents of drunken behavior and such, not really a good experience or something he wanted to expose the kids to again), and I know that MK is really really packed, but I'm concerned that the kids will be bored spending the whole day there. I love the atmosphere, and hey, it's WDW, so it's all good - I'm going to work up a paper for the band on all the things to do and see at MGM, to give them ideas (since they'll be at the park from 9am until 1am!)

I have to say that this is DH's and DDs' favorite park. We have to give two full days to it each trip. I say full days because they want to ride ToT, RnR, and Star Tours all day. I want to see Fantasmic at night. So for us it is all day for two full days. My DDs also like the animation academy. They both love to draw and have a blast drawing Mickey with the CM. I miss WWTBAM too.

yes. it is just you...we love mgm. perhaps we are different; but, we find it easy to fill a full day there.

Since ToT is my favorite attraction, I don't agree with you about MGM. We usually spend a day there plus parts of a couple of other days. I also really like RnR and the Muppets and liked Millionaire. I like the atmosphere and music in the park and love the street characters. Prime Time Cafe is one of our favorite places to eat, and we usually have lunch there on an MGM day. I DO think MGM needs a couple more attractions, though.

In the past I've always felt it was a full-day park. However last week when we were there we rode TOT, RNR, had lunch at 50's PTC and saw the Lights, Motor, Action Show. We also saw the 3pm parade, and that was about it. We couldn't think of anything we really wanted to do - so we left.

I suppose if it's your first trip to WDW you could spend an entire day there - I would have liked to see Fantasmic. But we've already done everything else (at least once). So I didn't feel it was necessary.

Next year we'll only plan 1/2 day there so the kiddos can get their thrill rides in - then do something else for the rest of the day.

I think MGM has a great vibe. I love the music and heyday hollywood era decor. TOT is one of my fave attractions, if not my fave. That being said, I think the whole park could use an update. Especially star tours, indiana jones, and backlot.

For me the only things to really see there are Muppets and Star Tours for must-sees, and Indy every other trip . . . ToT is an EXCELLENT attraction, but for me the thrill was seeing it the first time; second time, it was just a big yo-yo. :rotfl: RnRC was a major, major let-down; I thought the coaster itself was pretty wimpy and was counting on the theming to bring it up, but it really only looked like black lights on neon during the ride itself, not what I expected. Not to mention shouldn't it have been about . . . you know, MOVIES? Or at the very least, television? What does Aerosmith have to do with a film studio? We're going to do everything this trip (minus Fantasmic, which will be closed, thank the heavens, I hated the wait for that show and was dreading my DD wanting to see it) at the Studios since DH and DD hasn't seen it all yet, but when it's just me I'm in and out of there in no time and for future trips I'm pretty sure the rest of the family will be the same way. We're actually huge Epcot people, even the 6 year old.

I like MGM. However, they have so many shows that if you saw them a few years ago, they aren't, IMO, worthy to go back to. So, the few rides they have can be done in a few hours.

I'm going on a 3 day trip in early Nov and think I can hit the top 5 EMH morning attractions on Sat Nov 4. I hope so anyway. Those are all we are interested in.

That's just what we're doing in November. After ToT and RnR we'll walk a bit and enjoy the ambience, but my guess is we won't be there long. Gotta love them park hoppers! :goodvibes

People have different opinions. I happen to like MGM a lot. The park that i usually do not go to on trips os epcot. The only thing i like at epcot is the food.

Ok, I haven't been to MGM since 93. Can somone refresh my memory and let me know what "wwtbam" stands for? I know a lot of things have changed since I was last down there.

Thanks!

I personally love MGM but I hate the layout of the park. To me it feels like we go in, walk down Hollywood Boulevard, hang a right and hit all the attractions we truly enjoy like RNR, TOT, Voyage, Beauty and the Beast. We finish in this section and return to the center of the park and start asking why we would want to make the walk through the other side. I enjoy Star Tours and Muppetvision but there is so much space to cover in this area for the small number of attractions. It is almost like taking MK, moving all the popular attractions to tomorrowland and then trying to find a reason to visit the other lands.
