Is it me, or has the food gotten worse?

I don't know if I'm just being picky, but since I've been to Disney 5 years ago, it seems the food has gotten worse.

I went back to places I really enjoyed before, and they were not very good. We ate dinner at Fulton's, Corel Reef, Alfredo's, and they were all pretty bad, especially for the price. The last night, we decided to just eat at the Sci Fi, and it was actually pretty good.

They best thing I had to eat was the ice cream at Plaza in Magic Kingdom. We did eat at the Brown Derby for lunch one day, and that was good.
I was also pretty disappointed with the Creme Brulee. I sampled it at quite a few places, and none of them were great! Some were OK.

Oh well, I guess we do not go to Disney for the food!

Last fall we did Kona Cafe, 'Ohana, California Grill, Le Cellier, Spoodles, Cinderella's Royal Table, Tusker House and Rose & Crown--all were excellent. Luckily, we have rarely had any complaints about WDW food.

Sorry you were disappointed. We did Coral Reef for lunch and found it so-so, very overrated and overpriced.

Next trip, we intend to sample some of the many counter service places we've never done.

It really depends on your preference and taste. Almost every restaurant that I like has gotten a bad review on it. I have not found a real change in the quality of food. Service is hit and miss, though.

I usually don't set my expectations to high, that way you won't be to disappointed. But, I am glad to here that someone besides me enjoyed Sci-Fi.

If you went to Disney in the mid eighties you wouldn't believe how the food has improved since then!!! Some one correct me if I am wrong but wasn't all the food at Epcot cooked in the same kitchen and then just reheated at the retaurant? Even if it wasn't it sure tasted like it when it first opened. The food all over WDW has improved sooooooo much. Although I do miss the Empress Lilly and Papeete Bay Veranda!!

Although I do miss the Empress Lilly and Papeete Bay Veranda!!

We ate at the Papeete Bay Veranda every morning, 2 years in a row. Couldn't believe it was no longer there.

Actually, the food is one of the major reasons why we like Disney World!!
I think it has improved considerably since the mid-70's, when we first started going.
And oh the Papetee Bay Verandah. Our very first Disney meal was there. great view, fine food and entertainment to boot! Hard to believe they had to close it.

Just curious - where did the Papeete Bay Verandah used to be?

I was told by the wait staff at WDW that dining outside the parks, in the resorts are better than inside. The better chefs prefer the resort (timing) than the hussle and bussle of the park restaurants. Besides, at the park, they have a captive audience!

My best places are California Grill, Spoodles, Mexico, France, Shula's and Olivia's. I also enjoy Rainforest and SciFi for lunch.

Not at all pleased with Narcoosse's - food was not up to par.

Definitely Alfredo's has gotten worse. 12 years ago, it was great, 5 years ago, barely palattable and now, we miss it every time. Some places have gotten worse and some better.

'Ohana now occupies the space that used to be Papeete Bay Verandah.

We ate at the following on our trip and my only true disappointment was at the Land's Food Fair:
Chef Mickey's
Cosmic Ray's
Whispering Canyon
Land Food Fair (very drrryyyyy chicken sandwich)
Rose and Crown
Chakrandi's Chicken Stand (this was so-so, but not yucky or horrible)
Shula's
Rainforest Cafe DtD
Cape May Cafe
Pizza Planet
Lotus Blossom Cafe- again- so-so but I ate it all!
Leaning Palms
'Ohana
Pecos Bills
Food and Fun Center at the CR
Mexican Cantina at Epcot
Benihana at the Hilton
Columbia Harbour House

I didn't expect gourmet from anywhere except Shula's, and for the most part, everyone in our party of 7 was pleasantly surprised at almost everything we ate. My parents were disappointed with Lotus Blossom, but really liked what they got at the Land food court. None of us with perhaps the exception on my DH are picky eaters, so we aren't hard to please.

Eating at WDW is one of our favorite pasttimes, and other than once or twice, we have never been disappointed in our meals, over the past 10 years. I have not seen a decline in quality, quantity or service, although, of course the prices have risen, but what restaurant hasn't raised their prices in 10 years?

Our outstanding restaurants include:
Narcoosee's
50's Prime Time Cafe
Mama Melrose
Le Cellier
Tempura Kiku
Cape May Cafe- dinner
Fulton's
'Ohana
Kona Cafe
1900 Park Faire-- breakfast

Those that we think are good:
Garden Grille
San Angel Inn
Brown Derby
Tony's
Storybook Princess Breakfast
Big River Grille and Brewing Works
Boma
Boatwright's Dining Hall
Whispering Canyon Cafe-- breakfast

Those in which we were a bit disappointed:
Whispering Canyon Cafe-- dinner
Liberty Tree Tavern-- dinner

Sometimes when we first go to WDW, we are so overwhelmed by the magic of it all, that we build things up in our minds. Then when we return, they don't seem to measure up. Perhaps because you had 5 years to build up those expectations, you remembered things as better than they were.

Just a though!

I have to agree w/UR; we plan our Disney vacation around our meals. We have a very busy schedule and this is one time where we can take a moment and "smell the roses". We love to try different choices and we love the time spent "sharing". I can't recalll any meal that had us heading for the exit. We adapt, improvise and overcome.

Pigby:
Papeete Bay was a great spot. Sort of "'Pacific-Rimmish" cusine, plus they had a 3-piece combo and a hula dancer entertaining thruout the evening. My first meal there included PIGS 'n prawns, Lime and Coconut scallops, and one of those Seven Seas Cocktails. I still have the souvenier glass from that meal!

I'm really impressed. I enjoy your reviews. And I guess I see why. You remember what you've had to eat from 1975!!!!

Now, I probably still would have the souvenir glass unless my wife got ahold of it. She says I'm too much of a pack rat. LOL
