Is it Loud at Ft. Wilderness?

Hey folks - don't think I've posted on the camping board before, but I have a question.

I'm thinking about surprising my wife and 5 year old son with a quick trip down there Sunday thru Tuesday of Memorial Day weekend. I'm a United Methodist Minister, so I can't leave before Sunday. Our anniversary is on that Wednesday, so this would be kind of a combo Anniversary and just a getaway kind of trip.

Here's my issue. We've never camped at Disney before, and have only been to Ft. Wilderness 1 time. We went over one weekend for a quick trip about a year ago and attended the Chip & Dale Movie time at night. Whn the movie was over, we headed for the bus stop and had to wait a fairly long time for the bus. But while we waited, we couldn't get over how loud things seemed to be. I didn't see many tents where we were, mostly RV's. But there were tons of people walking around, talking and folks on go carts putting around. Generally, I was surprised at just how loud it seemed to be. And it was pretty late when we were there (though I do not remember the exact time.)

I think we would enjoy camping down there, and might try it this trip if I'm able to put it together. But is it loud at night for tent camping? Loud to keep us form being able to sleep?

Thanks for the help!

Blessings!
Mark

Depends on what your definition of "loud" is. Most campgrounds have "quiet" hours.

LOL. Thanks Gatordad. i figured there were quiet hours, but honestly haven't searched to find them. I also don't know if there is a separation between RV camping and tent camping. I guess I don't really know squat about Ft. Wilderness. LOL.

And I'm going to assume from your name that you have a child at UF? If so, I promise to pray for them! LOL GO NOLES!

Blessings!

The main drags seem to be noisier than back in the loops. You will hear the EWP at night, the fireworks from MK, Fantasmic, whistle from the MK train. It quiets down when the parks close.

If you're tent camping, you might want to consider staying in a preferred loop or one that has a lot of RVs. Those are actually quieter, IMHO, than the two tent loops. The tent loops are great...don't get me wrong...people we met were always so friendly and it's laid back, but people are out more, the comfort stations are busier, etc.

I just did a quick search and all that was available was Partial Hook-up sites.

As mentioned, the quiet hours should take care of the noise concern but sometimes there are groups that tend to extend their celebration. This is very rare though.

Have fun if you go.

My girlfriend and I have tent camped at thoe fort atleast once a year since 2003. Noise has never been a problem. We have been right behind the bus stops and it wasn't a big deal. Gators? Noles? AHHHHHHHH C A N E S, CANES!!!

Take a small air conditioner along. It will help keep you cool, and will block out most noise at night!

Never really had a problem with noise at night, most people I think are too tired by the time night falls to make much noise ;)

It always depends, but the same could be said of any of the resorts.

A few years back, our first time at FW, it took me two days to get used to the noise. We were accustomed to tenting without civilization where the only noise would be night critters and the flowing of a waterfall. If you are used to camping in State Parks, you will have no problem but if you are used to just the night sounds, you may have to go through an adjustment period like we did.

We are pretty much addicted to some kind of white noise for sleeping at home, and especially when out somewhere.
Either a cheap little unit that plays different background sounds, or a fan running should take care of most noises. Of course there isn't much you can do about car doors slamming, car alarms, diesel trucks starting up right next to you, etc. etc.I really don't think FW is as bad as most State Parks we have stayed in.

The only time we dealt with noise was some young grads from grad night. When we got up the next morning one guy was sleeping with his legs hanging out of the car:rotfl2: and the others were in the tent. There were liquor bottles on the table. I was not happy about the noise, but they were quiet by 1am. Only time I have had a problem though.

as stated earlier...If you camp near the front of the loop near the bus stops a fan or a/c would drown the bus noise out. I've used both tent and campers at FW and found at the ned of a busy day when you lay your head down the sounds aren't heard at all as you are dead tired! I would be surprised if you got a campsite this late but stranger things have happened! Good luck!

I haven't camped at the Fort yet, but I have camped at some noisy places and we just turn our air conditioner or the fan on and it is so loud we can barely hear each other talking which is great since our bed is in the front of the camper and the kids bunks are in the back...:rotfl2: Something about camping makes them very CHATTY!!!;)

You probably just need to accept that it might get noisy at times an that you will be sleep-deprived. There's no way to be sure. As a UM minister, you know about sleep-deprivation! Sometimes we can't sleep, not because of the noise, but because of the excitement of being at Disney. Disney is not a place to go for peace and quiet, and its always possible that you will arrive back home exhausted, but probably very, very happy.

We have stayed at FW several times the last year and we actually had more noise at the hotels a couple of times when kids were allowed to run up and down the halls till late in the night. We even had one guy step out in the in the hall and stated "Quiet those kids down or I'm going kick somebodys A**"

I laughed about that.

We stayed at FW for the first time in Jan and thought it was the quietest place we've ever stayed at in all of WDW!!!! :rotfl:
We were in a cabin, so not sure if there is less noise in the cabin loops. But we had a golf cart and tooled around at night and thought it was quite peaceful compared to some of the other resorts we've stayed at.
In fact it was the first time I slept through the night at WDW without having some rude neighbor come into their room at some unearthly hour making tons of noise. :goodvibes

We're heading back to the cabins in Sept!!!! Can't wait!! :cool1: :yay: :dance3:

This last time we went in December was on the outside of the loop closest to the road. I found the busses to be loud. It was December so no need for a fan to drown the noise. Icould see how this would work! People traffic did not bother me but the bus noise did. I would suggest a site on the inside of the loop not next the main road. The busses run very late. Good Luck!

I fine FW is like a rock concert ever night it is Loud i can't sleep. Oh GF just told me that it's her playing the radio so she can sleep. Sorry

Thanks everyone for the advice. I haven't decided if we're going yet or not. As I said, my wife doesn't even know I'm thinking about it. We went down last year on Memorial Day for a quick overnight trip. When I called yesterday, they had tent sites available, but not sure yet. We'll see what happens. I have to email her boss and see if she can get a day off and all kinds of stuff to line up if we go.

But thanks again. If we do go, I'll take a fan and we'll be good!

Blessings!
Mark
