Is it just too crazy in August?

Usually my husband and I do a few days at Disneyland in December. We try to take a few days midweek, not so many kids, and we can browse the decorations and rides at our leisure.

We have a couple of days off midweek in August and thought we'd give Disneyland a go. Is it really just too crazy in the summer, even midweek? It's just the two of us, mid-50's, no kids.
Any thoughts?

Since I have not heard anyone call August at DLR "crazy", I am not sure to what you are referring.

Summer months have moderate crowds in recent years. Most people come back saying they were surprised.

Depending when you went in December and when you go in August, it could be better and warmer.

Remember they have millions of AP holders for DLR, and the cheaper ones are blocked for the summer, so it is not as crazy as you might think. But then again, mid-week and end of summer when all those AP holders are allow back, it will get super busy. I would check the AP calendar to try to avoid the true "Crazy Days"

I went last August, the first Friday/Saturday of the month and was very surprised at crowd levels. I have experienced larger crowds during Spring Break in March, and in October during Halloweentime. Actually I have my next trip planed for this coming August too!

We went early August last year and the crowds weren't all that large. It was during a killer heat wave though so that might have had a little bit to do with it.

August is busy, not crazy, I would find spring break crazy, but I do not go then.

I love August!

We have gone quite a few times, and have enjoyed it. We have even been during the dreaded "everyone is unblocked time"! And still, I would still choose to go.

The best things about August is that there are long operating hours, all parades and shows are in full swing.

We have found that in the later part of the month many schools are back in session so during the week it is less crowded.

There will still be large crowds, just not super crazy.

Also, it is nice and toasty. Which makes for great weather when riding the water rides. :thumbsup2

I agree with Tink.

We are going in August too. Checking the pass calendar is definitely the way to do.

Also, you can call and ask if there are any big groups scheduled for the days you are looking at. I mean like 1000's of people that have an event at the park that day. Or if you are too embarrased to do that, just call and ask if there are any special events for the time you are visiting. If they tell you Justin Beiber (spelling?) is going to be in concert, don't go!! :)

We are going mid-August, so I am hoping it's not too busy. I don't mind crowds, it's just long waits for everything I wouldn't be too excited about. Looks like some AP's are still blocked that week still.

I went in August last year and didn't find the crowds to be that bad. Indiana Jones was the most difficult to get into, but I used FP for that.

The Dobies have gone to DL the second week of August the last 3 years and have found it busy, but not crazy. Using basic theme park common sense is all you need to have a great time!!!!!

We're thinking of going around Aug 21 to avoid all of the upcoming closures. It's that or wait until the end of November. We're hoping that kids will be back in school by that point. Any thoughts?

Where do I find this calendar?

While August is not crazy busy in general - August 21 will be. First day of unblocked AP holders.

See "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

We're going the 2nd week of August - the SoCal passes are blocked out for the first three weeks of August so I don't believe the crowds will be insane, but time will tell.

You can definitely tell the difference just between the days when the Deluxe passes are blocked ( Saturdays) and they're not, so having the SoCal passes blocked during those weeks will probably lighten the crowds quite a bit.

Even if the parks are slammed, we always plan for it and spend time doing just a few things we want and don't try to crowd it all in - less stress = more fun!
