Ok, I am not exactly sure why but it just seems like lately I have become a magnet to the bizarre. Take yesterday for example. I figured it would be a quiet day around the house leading up to the Diamondbacks game last night. I figured I would help Trina out a little to try and make up for that who brain picking thing which incidentally was not my fault. But then I somehow got involved in one of those teenage dating ritual things and my life will never be the same. My daughter Mallorie is a senior in high school and last night was her senior prom. She has just been dying to go but wasnt sure who to go with. She really likes this boy who graduated last year but she knew he would not ask her to go to a high school dance. So after lengthy discussions with her mom it was determined that she would ask the boy to the dance. Instead of giving the lad some time to think about it, Mallorie decided to surprise it on him. She decided that they would make a date to go to the movies then she would spring it on him that they were going to a formal dance. Working with the boys parents, Mallorie got his tuxedo and dress clothes. She had Trina take the clothes along with Mallories prom dress to the gym where Trina works. Mallorie would tell the boy they needed to stop by and pick up a check then she would ask him to the dance. She decided further that instead of her asking him, she would have it announced over the loudspeakers at the gym what her intentions were. She also decided that dad was kind of creative so would he mind writing something for them to say. Well sure, I would hate to disappoint my daughter so I agreed. Since the boys name was Sam I figured what better way than to take some literary liberties with the Dr. Seuss classic Green Eggs and Ham. So I rewrote the book with my own rhyming verses. Now lest you think this is the weird part, it isnt. I was totally cool with humiliating a boy who was dating my daughter. What I had not planned on was what else I would be asked to do. The plan was for him to be asked over the loud speaker then he was to go to the front desk for a key to a locker in the dressing room. He would then go and retrieve his tuxedo and they would go to the dance. Before leaving though I would be required to document the event on film. Unfortunately for me though, only women were in on this meaning that I was the one responsible for placing everything in the mens locker. Putting the clothes in though was not a problem as the locker room was empty. But then when I came out, I handed the key to the locker to the guy at the front desk. Just then Trina came in and handed me my camera and Mallories flower. She told me that I needed to put the flower in the locker with Sams clothes. I retrieved the key from the front desk and made my way to the mens locker room. Now this is where it gets strange. Here I am dressed in flip flops and shorts carrying a camera in one hand and a corsage in the other hand. This time when I went into the locker room there is some dude who just got out of the shower standing right in front of the locker I am supposed to go to. I am not sure who had a more frightened look on their face, the guy with the camera and the flower in his hands or the naked guy with the deer in the headlights look on his face. I tried to politely ask him if he could please move but he was too busy grabbing towels to hear me I think. I tried to ignore him and went right to the locker but the lock would not work. So I am beating on a lock trying to look straight ahead while he is flipping out. He finally got a hold of a towel but I was standing on the edge of it. He yanked it so hard I nearly fell over. I couldnt get the lock open and I run out of the room. As I tried to explain what happened to the guy at the front desk, Trina was laughing her head off. It seems I had the wrong key so they gave me the new key and sent me back in. By this time, the guy at least had his underwear on but I dont think that made him any more comfortable since when I came back in with the camera and the flower he began grabbing all of his clothes and running back towards the shower. I just opened the locker, placed the flower in the bottom, locked it and ran out. I am not sure but I think I am going to need to find a new place to work out. I am not sure I can face going into the locker room again.
