Is it just me or..........

I just got back from my first trip to WDW in 15 years, and I can honestly say that I do not think I will be returning until after my husband and I have kids who are at least 44" tall. I used to live in S. Florida, and my family went on long weekend trips (back when there was only MK and Epcot) about 4-6 times a year, and I certainly have a love for the place, but I do not have enough money to travel every year, and I enjoy seeing/doing new things. DH and I have been to Canada (Ottawa, Toronto, & Quebec), Charleston, San Francisco, and part of the Appalachain Trail, and we'd love to go back to Canada (either Nova Scotia/PEI or points west) and DH recently mentioned wanting to go to Vegas. WDW is the kind of vacation after which I need a vacation (I am always wiped out for a week - exhausted!) and I kind of liked the fact that so many years had passed between this visit and my last visit - there were so many things that were new or different so I didn't get bored.

I think if I could only go on one big vacation per year, I probably wouldn't do Disney every year. We are fortunate enough to be able to afford more than one vacation per year, so at least one of them is always Disney.

I totally agree with the "speaking a foreign language" part. DH and I can't seem to take the kids anywhere else. /QUOTE]

That's us. We were going to do a non-Disney vacation next year, so I researched and decided on D.C. DH vetoed that...he said the younger kids would be bored and the kids themselves weren't too excited about it. He suggested the beach - forget it. Not my idea of a vacation - there is absolutely nothing to do at the beach and I get bored silly (I will go for short trips for the kids, but a couple of days is all I can take). DH suggested a cruise but IMO, that's basically an overpriced beach vacation. We are not the outdoorsy type so no camping or hiking. So what is left for a family with 3 kids ages 14, 8, and 5? DISNEY!!! No place I'd rather be and all the kids agree. :cheer2:

I did not see any flaming messages which is good. :) I like how everyone just kind of understands but expressed how they feel ... so here are my feelings too.

I am very lucky to have a good job and great DH and for 20 years we took vacations to where family lived. Yes, lucky enough they live at the beach, interesting cities, and even in Florida (but not near WDW). I am not much of a traveller, but being near DC, there are so many day trips worth doing ... and favorites to revisit.

Then I planned our "trip of a lifetime" to WDW. Planning was fun ... cost is high but I've saved and am not a spender ... and I have never had such a wonderful time ... NEVER -- DH and I relaxed, had fun, ate far too well and I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE MOUSE!

Happily I am still able to do the day trips and family trips (no children but we do have some financial responsibilities for elderly relatives) but I will be going back to WDW this fall and back again next fall (2007). After that, I do know it will be a regularly scheduled event.

WDW offers solace to my soul ... and I have not begun to scratch the surface of things to do and see there!

To each his own ... some are born with the magic ... and some gain it later in life ... and some just like a brief sprinkle of pixie dust and it's enough for them. Thanks for starting an interesting and thought provoking thread!

You are so welcome and I also am very happy that I was not "flamed" as you all call it. I just wanted to state my opinion as we all have opinions even though we may not all agree!!! I think Disney is the ultimate family vacation!!! I hope it continues to make all of you very happy and hopefully one day we will be back !!!

Just another thought I had... I like to take a break so that the shows or the parades are just a little bit different. It also has been giving the AK time to grow, as well. :woohoo:

We make a family Disney trip at least once a year. But every third year we head out to CA instead of Florida. It provides both a different environment and more things to do outside of Disney.

When we are in FL there seems to be so much to do just at the parks that we rarely leave. Except last year when we did the Discovery Cove Dolphin Trainer for a Day (very much worth every penny!!!!).

Now that doesn't mean we don't do other vacations, we do a small trip in the summer usually to Chicago, Tortonto etc. and then there is the mandatory couple trip to Vegas and the annual (or twice like this year) guys trip to Vegas.

The only year we won't be going is 2010 since we will be going to the Olympics to catch hockey.

We have a four-year-old dd, and my parents live an hour outside of Orlando. My parents are in their mid to late 70's and don't like to fly, so driving up to New York is not something any of us are comfortable with. Due to the circumstances, we visit them once a year and go to WDW for vacation too--usually with them. Through doing that, we realized that WDW has everything that we would want in a vacation. Warm weather, great food, wonderful shopping. We are thinking of joining the DVC so we can enjoy Disney OUTSIDE of Disney once our dd is older. But for now, Disney scratches all of our itches and it's the only place we seriously consider for vacation.
