Is it just me or is Xmas in Florida wierd???

If it helps, it is supposed to get down to 32 degrees tonight. They have freeze warnings posted.

It's funny how people associate snow and cold with Christmas. Many people celebrate Christmas in areas that never experience snow or cold. Christmas really has nothing to do with the weather.

I'm from Northeast Ohio (can you say "Lake Effect" snow?!) and I gotta admit, the Christmas decorations and the 85 degree weather was a weird mix for me last week at WDW. It's really funny looking at pictures. I got Minnie in her red, fur trimmed holiday finery standing with my niece in shorts and a tank top. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED it, but it was a little strange.

Course when we got home and got 10 inches of the white stuff dumped on us the next day I was thinking I could definitely get used to the Florida version of Christmas real quick! LOL!

I'll take the warmth and sunshine over the snow anyday! The only wierd thing about Christmas at Disney is the songs, hearing Christmas carols throughout the day instead of Disney music. Today there are freeze warnings. We're going to Disney today. I'd rather have that 80 degree weather, than the freeze warnings.

I agree! As much as I enjoyed being there for Christmas last year, it almost didnt seem like Disney not hearing the usual music. Going back to normal when I was there in July was great. ;)

July in WDW is too hot for me!! I much rather be there in the cooler months. Right now in Southeast Florida its 40 degrees with wind chills in the 30s so its nice. The daytime temps are only going to be in the 60s. After this cool front another one is coming through and then I think after that they expect another one. So it looks like the cool weather is here to stay for a while. But I do remember plenty of Christmases wearing shorts. I too don't equate Christmas with snow.

I grew up outside of Chicago and have been living in SC for 8 years now. I have the hardest time getting into the spirit of things here. It feels more like fall (though not this week) than winter, and sometimes its so warm its like late spring. The sun is amost always shining (not usually the case in Chicago as its often gray and dreary), the grass is still on the green side, and there are still leaves on the tree (though theyre red, orange, brown, etc). We might get a little snow come January, but thats a big if! My old neighborhoods would try to outdo each other with decorations, but here, the decorations are sparse. Christmas Eve found us outside, often freezing in the wind trying to light luminaries, then driving around to look at everything. Here, its almost unheard of unless you live in a really nice neighborhood with organization and close ties. The radio staions have been playing Christmas music since the beginning of Nov, and Hallmark starts selling Christmas ornaments in July. I just love looking at Christmas decorations alongside Halloween decorations (no I dont), but I believe this is the case throughout most of the country these days. Its sad really. If it werent for my son I dont think Id have much if any Christmas spirit even though its my favorite holiday. Of course, heading for a cruise and WDW on the 26th has me more focused on prepping for that than Christmas!

It isn't funny to me, but we left Chicago in January of 1992 and I haven't lived in a place where snow falls regularly since. Phoenix we were often in shorts for Christmas. It isn't that warm here, but by Easter we are having our meals on the patio!

Well, I guess it's lucky you don't live in Australia (or anywhere else in the southern hemisphere) when Christmas comes in the middle of their summer.

I went to WDW last month after the decorations went up. It was very strange. To hear "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" over the loudspeakers while it was 80 degrees and I was wearing shorts just seemed wrong.

I grew up in Houston, TX and Phoenix, AZ. It seems like a normal Christmas to me :)

I was in Freeport, Bahamas once during Christmas. Everywhere we went they were playing this calypso version of "Silent Night" and the only decorations were lights in the palm trees! I thought it was really funny.

I don't celebrate Christmas, so it doesn't matter much to me where I am then. But I'll happily take a warm week in Florida over the freezing weather we're getting here in Michigan now. I just hope Oralndo warms up by the time we get there in a week and a half!

Hmm, it seems to me that Bethlehem is in a desert climate where snow is unlikely. And somehow our cards have all this white stuff and forest animals on them....Even here in NE CT it's only a white Christmas 1/3 of the time. But today is really chilly. The day started at 17 degrees.

Here at nearly 10,000 feet in Colorado, we ALWAYS have a white Xmas. And I wouldn't have it any other way. But I LOVED seeing Disney decorations last week, going to the Very Merry Xmas Party and seeing it snow on Main Street and going to the Candlelight Processional AND seeing the palm trees with their bases lighted up!

Would have even done the sleigh ride, had there been an available reservation

Admittedly, I like waking up on Xmas day right here in my beautiful Victorian home with all its icicle lights, snowmen, deer, antelope and moose (live ones).

Nothing like home for the HOlidays!

I've spent every Christmas of my life in either the Northeast, or Chicago. Our two early December trips to WDW, while 'different', were wonderful! I loved looking at the "palm tree" decorations around Orlando, and I especially loved sitting poolside in the morning reading about a snowstorm back home!!! I don't need snow and frostbite to give me that "Christmas feeling". Anyway, the "Babe in a manger" wasn't born during a snowstorm.

As I saw mentioned, I was there last Christmas, and it was absolutely freezing. Coming from WV, we are fairly accustomed to cold weather. And, when I decided to take my thermals to FL, everyone else who was going made fun of me (which consisted of my DH and our best friend.) But, it was absolutely freezing there, and I caught the worse cold I have had for years. I actually spent the day in bed while my DH, DS and fried spent the day in the parks. (I went with them that night to Epcot that evening to see Illuminations. It is so obvious from the pics that I should not be there!)

But, to me, there is no better place to be for the Christmas season than Disney World. For the past three years, we have went there in Mid-December. It is wonderful. (And I am so bummed that we are not there this year...But I am remaining hopeful for next year...)

We've been in Florida for five years now, at first X-mas in FL was Weird. However, each year it seems to get colder and colder which is more like the Christmas we know. This year we will be in WDW for christmas to enjoy the trees, lights etc. which will help us get into the spirit. We still miss Christmas up north, mostly the families, but now it is a lot less dysfunctional and we're free to go to WDW without any guilt!

Well if it helps any we are having lows in 30s this week and next week with highs of 70 on a few days and we still have Jan. which is traditionally the coldest month to come. Temps of 90 are very doubtful for the rest of the month.

I really think it is all in your attitude. There are so many holiday activities at WDW. Make sure you go to the CP show. If you are not in the holiday spirit by the time you leave from that show something is wrong with you. Check out the Osbourne lights, they have a light snow that occurs.

We must be doing somthing right because Disney is booked for the holidays and everyone keeps moving down here.

I was very excited to see all the xmas decorations at WDW. It was part of the reason we decided to spend DHs Bday there. The decs. are beautiful but it felt wierd having 80 degrees and Xmas carols and decorations. I just couldn't get into the spirit. Am I the only Northerner that felt like this????

I am reconsidering this thought since its 18 degrees outsidenow :earseek: !

Yup. We were there last week. The decorations were beautiful and don't get me wrong, I loved the warm weather. But the two don't mix. I actually thought the Christmas decorations "got in the way" of the REAL Disney, and missed the normal music they'd play. 9 days of Christmas carols got real old, real quick. Now I can't wait to go back at a "normal" time. I don't think I'll go back in December again.
