Is it just me or is Xmas in Florida wierd???

We were just down there, too from 12/3 - 12/11. I was thinking the EXACT same thing as the OP. I was so excited to get into the holiday spirit while down there and it just didn't happen. Too hot! Now we come back and I still feel the same way. I just can't get into it this year. :scratchin

Small world! That's the dates we were there, stayed at the Poly! And I haven't been able to get into Christmas at home yet, either! I still dream I'm back at the Poly, and wake up all confused because my bedroom doens't look like the hotel room!

I still can't believe that Christmas is next week!

Gotta agree with Kenny Chesney on this one....all i want for Christmas is a tan.

I hate cold weather and snow. (grew up in Pittsburgh - had plenty of it then and learned it was a huge pain in the butt) DH hates cold. (tells war stories about how cold it was on Army training outings and how it gets darn cold at night in the desert. - was in the Gulf War in '91.) We have raised a 10 year old that hates the cold. (still likes snow only because enough of it means no school!) And the 5 month old who was born in July isn't digging it so far either.

Will be transplanting down south as soon as we retire (way too long!!!!!) and will make frequent visits until then.

Would i miss cold and snow at Christmas? - probably not, and if i did, i would come back up to Pennsylvania and visit family for a few days. But in short order, i am sure i would be longing for my shorts and mild temps again?

As a transplanted Massachusetts girl (went to Woodstock Academy-home of the Centaurs), I had trouble with the warm weather the first few years. But what really helped was thinking of the Bethlehem, desert, Biblical part of Christmas. I still miss the snow and winter scenery, but not so bad.

Yup. We were there last week. The decorations were beautiful and don't get me wrong, I loved the warm weather. But the two don't mix. I actually thought the Christmas decorations "got in the way" of the REAL Disney, and missed the normal music they'd play. 9 days of Christmas carols got real old, real quick. Now I can't wait to go back at a "normal" time. I don't think I'll go back in December again.

I agree with you wholeheartedly!!! And believe me, they have toned it down the last couple of years!! I remember in 1999 and 2000, the decorations and Christmas music was way overwhelming!! Every available inch that could be decorated, was decorated, and Christmas Music played everywhere, and replaced every bit of themed music on property.

The last few years, while still a lot of Christmas music and decorations, they have left a few areas with the regular Disney theming and music.

I don't enjoy cold weather period, so having the warm weather and Christmas decorations doesn't bother me, but it is even cold in FL this year. Tuesday night was bitter cold!!! But idiot me, since it was my last night, I braved Fantasmic!, the Osbourne Lights, and then Illuminations. The wind coming off the lake during Illuminations was bitter!!

Plus, I was camping!! I wore two sweatshirts, thermals, and sweatpants to bed under my electric blanket and needed it!!!!

Yeah, it was weird to me when we were there and i grew up in So CA! I hate snow and cold now though (liked it for the first 15 years I lived here.) so I think I could adjust!!

What I really did miss was the "normal" background music. We were there the week of Thanksging and on M,T the regular music was playing in the parks. I didn't realize how much I liked it until they switched to Xmas music constantly. MGM was really bad because the play track was so limited. I must of heard the Boston Pops Sleigh ride 20+times! It was fun "seeing" Xmas in the south but I stick with it here until Dec 27th...then it can all go away!!!

For Simba's Mom: My youngest DS is currently a sophomore at Woodstock Academy! Others graduated in 1998 and 2001. "It's a small world after all..."

It did seem a bit weird to me to see all the Xmas decorations along with green grass and flowers. Didn't really help to get me in the spirit. It was beautiful though and we had a wonderful time.

We are transplanted from Virigina, so I know exactly what you mean. It just doesn't feel quite right to have weather in which you could swim and Christmas decorations at the same time. I am enjoying the cold snaps this year... it just feels "right"!

That is exactly why I love to live in Georgia. We still have all four seasons. I hate the cold weather but at Christmas time it has got to be cold or it doesn't feel like Christmas. I love to visit Florida but definitely wouldn't want to live there!

When we went for Christmas in 2002, I never really felt it. It was chilly in the evening and the decorations were nice, but I still never felt it. I said I would never do it again.

My brother lives in LA and is trying to talk us into coming for Christmas next year.....to stay on property in WDL. I would love to go see my brother, but I just don't know if I can do Disney for Christmas in California. Even LA for Christmas just will not seem right. Granted, we are 5 days from Christmas and it was 70 degrees this afternoon in Texas, but at least it is in the low 40's when I get up in the morning. :flower1:

We love it! I am from NY and DH is from the Boston area. There are so many Christmas events/shows/things to do here-even more than NY and I LOVE NY at Christmas time:) So many houses here in Celebration are decorated. It is great driving around with Christmas music and coffee or hot coco and looking at them all. On some blocks every home is decorated! The cool weather makes it feel more Christmasy but I got in the spirit even when it was 80. It is great to wear a sweatshirt or polorflece top and no bulky coat/jacket. I do not miss MA weather AT ALL!!! 17-NO way:)
