Is it just me, or does Boma not appeal to other people?

I keep hearing how BOMA is great, but when I look at the menu, it just doesn't appeal to me. I am not a really adventurous diner, but I do like middle eastern food and some sea foods, but Boma isn't calling my name.

Nope, Boma always appealed to me but I am an adventurous eater. I was more worried about it not appealing to some of the other family members and made the reservations anyway. Of 9 in our group, only two didn't really care for it, although, they did find American food to satisfy. One of them thought the food was going to be different and the other didn't like the atmosphere of the restaurant. If you've never given Boma a try, just try it once. You may like it.

I loved Boma. I found several things that I had never eaten before that I ended up loving. My DH was another story. He is not a picky eater at all. He usually can eat anywhere. He refused to go back this year though. I really wanted to to add it to our list for our Aug trip, but he hated it. It is the only restaurant at Disney that he refuses to go back to.
If it were up to me, I would highly recommend it. My DH would tell you to run. :)

i didn't like it when i went two years ago. maybe things are different now, but i remember neither me or my sister enjoyed the meal. it was probably the least favorite out of all our meals that vacation, including counter service. the strange thing though is that we are adventurous eaters, and we love exotic food. however, with so many people naming it as their favorite restaurant, i might have to try it again. maybe my tastebuds were having an off day

We went 2 years ago and I wasnt keen. The ethnic foods just werent spicy enough for me. I was so disappointed. I agree that the array of food is awesome but for me it just doesnt press all the right buttons. Having said all that, the kids loved it and we are going back.

Each one of us has a restaurant we want to try and Boma is mine. I want to try new things. Like just Ms.Mouse said I am a little worried about some of my family not liking it but from what I read there is enough American food there so they won't go away hungry.

Oldest DD wants to check out Biergarten. Youngest DD (StitchfansJr) wants to check out Ohana ( to be honet me too  since Stitch will be there)
DH just insists on the old time favorite of his, Hoop Dee Doo, which isn't new to any of us.

Of course all of us agree it isn't a real trip unless we go to Chef Mickeys. :thumbsup2

Boma does not appeal to any of us. I don;t think I would like the spices plus it seems they use a lot of nuts and I avoid nuts- they make my mouth itch. My DH is picky, he thought the meats at Ohana were differently spiced. so imagine Boma.

We tried it and while interesting atmosphere, it wasn't our cup of tea. Maybe we were all "fooded" out by that time in the trip, but the food wasn't spicy at all. We were expecting true African food (like oxtail soup or goat) but it was Americanized African food with a bit of cayenne/curry.

It was a once do, and we won't go back. We did it for free on last years free dining so it really wasn't our thing though.

I haven't tried it yet, but I am excited to. I will try almost anything, but DH is a bit more picky. He assured me though that he doesn't mind trying it, but if he can't find anything he likes, he will get a pizza back at the resort.

We tried Boma on our last trip. I am about as picky as can be. I did enjoy it though. I have no idea what I ate, but it was all good.

I really enjoyed the breakfast at Boma but I didn't care for the dinner. I thought the food was bland and I didn't even care for the zebra dome (I know, shoot me now LOL ).

I just wanted to comment on breakfast at Boma......Not trying to be mean, but aside from the Frunch & the fruit, it was probably the worst breakfast that I've ever had in WDW.

I was totally embarassed because I took my parents there telling them just how much everyone seemed to like it.....Well, they didn't like it either. :sad2:

If you don't want to go, don't. Life's too short to hate your dinner. If you're on the fence and think you might like to try it, then go and find out. But you won't know if you like it if you don't try it. DH and I loved the place. I wasn't sure if I was going to. I've read so many reviews like above where some people who didn't enjoy it it consider themselved adventurous eaters, which I am--you kind of have to be when eating out as a vegetarian. Maybe "adventurous" means something else to other people, or they were expecting more spicy food. The food isn't very spicy, unlike other African food I've tried (Ethiopian). It's like Middle Eastern food in some ways. They had falafel and couscous, for example. Some of it is totally familiar to meat-and-potatoes Americans (prime rib, roasted potatoes, etc). The desserts aren't terribly unusual. We weren't very "wowed" by those.

We really liked it. It was different without being over the top different. I would give it a try to see for yourself. There is enough variety there to satisfy almost anyone.

I am an adventurous eater and I disliked Boma. The atmosphere was pretty but the food and noise of the restaurant was disappointing. We're trying Jiko out this November and I'm having higher hopes for it!

We took our trip in mid-May and were disappointed in Boma. It had been highly recommended to us - on these boards and by family and goes to WDW (and Boma) yearly. The only thing DH commented favorably on was the squash soup, which I found to have a too sweet flavor. I think I tried absolutely everything on the buffet and didn't like anything. I would characterize myself as a fairly adventurous eater. The majority of the desserts contained alcohol - I am pregnant so didn't eat any. We won't eat at Boma on future trips!

but I will cause we have reservations on our next trip.

I wasn't going to try Boma cause of some of the negativity it gets. But I went to the thread with food pictures from Boma. Now I NEED to give it a try. I think I will like it, DH may like it, and DS will like it even if he only has the fresh fruits.

Boma... was very different than I expected. I was a bit hesitant to eat there for a couple of reasons. One, even though there were glowing reports, the food just did not seem appealing to me in print. Two, I wasn't sure how my DDs would react. As it happened, I was stuck with a non-park meal to plan, so I made a last minute ADR here.

Before I detail the reasons why, let me tell you we LOVED it. First of all, the presentation of the lobby of AKL with the aromas wafting from the restaurants was nothing short of mouth watering. We checked in for our ADRs, got a beeper and proceeded to wander through the lobby.

The decor was so unusual yet welcoming. We found the atmosphere very pleasant, the dark wood theme beautiful, and many large tables celebrating. We sat down and despite everyone referring to the food stations as Pods, it's very much like a regular buffet. Because it was a buffet, I really felt free to try a bit of everything, and I was very glad I did. I discovered that the most distinguishable aroma we smelled as we entered AKL came from the spice rub on the ribs. They were wonderfully prepared and spicy without being overpowering. Even my kids were raving over the food. Some of my favorite items were:

coconut rice
coconut curry chicken stew
watermelon tomato salad (even got the recipe for this one)
salmon
coconut tiramisu (anyone sensing a trend here?)
ribs
hummus dips
couscous

I know I had more that I liked. My DD12 said they had the best mac and cheese on WDW property. I will defer to her expertise in that area. We all loved Boma and my kids have asked to dine there again.

Try it!

Boma is one of our favorites at WDW, and your description of the places makes me wish I were eating there again tonight. It is a must do for us on every trip. Although the items aren't liked by everyone, I think that is to be expected. However, those who like it seem to really like it a *lot*.

My DH and I tried Boma on our last trip in January. I was a little nerves because I am a picky eater,(I don't like onions or peppers or much else for that matter) but I ate until I could not eat anymore! I loved the prime rib and the chicken the most. The dessert Bar did seem to be lacking but, never fear, I found something yummy and it tasted of Kahlua! The soups were exotic to me and so were the salads but, it was fun to try a little of everything. They do let adults eat off of the "kids" buffet which had baked ziti, chicken fingers and all that macaroni and cheese they serve everywhere. So, there is a lot of choice and you can eat all you want, I loved it and so did my DH.
